Chapter 11: Let’s Talk

Ashton’s POV

I walked over to Mikey and gave him a small sad smile. “I’m sorry mate.” I whispered. I didn’t need to say what for, everybody knew. The detention room grew even more silent and tense, if at all possible.

“It’s not your fault.” Michael spoke, only slightly louder than I did. “It’s not really anybody’s fault I guess. You can’t help what your heart feels.” He turned and looked at Calum, pain swirling through his eyes. Guilt put a weight on my chest, the temptation to scratch my arm bloody was nearly overwhelming. I kept my hands at my sides, not wanting to uproar my friends in the room.

“Cal,” I begin. I turned to look at the brunette boy, the one for whom I cared so much. He looked at me, tears in his eyes. “I do care about you, but not in the way you care for me.” Pain streaked across his face, but it vanished quickly.

“I get that.” Calum’s voice cracked. He cleared his throat and went on. “You love Luke, and that’s a good thing. I’m sorry to you all, for the mess I created.” Cal looked between all three of our faces, before dropping his gaze to the floor.

“All of you!” Ms. Squaler opened the door and slammed it behind her. “Take your seats, now!” her voice sounded like a parrot squealing. The four of us scurried into desks, keeping our eyes low. Rumor has it that if you look her in the eyes, she’ll steal your soul. “Now, why are all of you in here? Let’s start with you Mr. Clifford.”

I glanced over, only to see a cocky smile on Michael’s face. “Oh, I broke Mr. Palabras’ window, that’s all.” Squaler glared at him, before moving on to the rest of us.

“And you, menaces.” She spit out at us.

“Let’s call it a friendly gentleman’s disagreement.” I replied smarmily.  “Or, as you probably told our parents, a ‘fight’.”

“You’re right, Mr. Irwin.” Squaler ignored my comment. “I did call all of your parents. But, yours didn’t even care, Mr. Irwin.” I felt everything in me tense up, and brake some. My parents never did care anyways. I simply shrugged, and the wicked bitch of the East moved on.

“Your mother, Lucas, was livid if I do say so myself.”Squaler’s face was smug. I turned my head again and saw Luke clenching his teeth in anger.

No, you may not say.” Luke gritted out, angry and pissed off. “Don’t bring up my family.” His tone cooled some, but not by much.

“I can say what I please.” Squaler marched up to Luke’s desk. “And you can’t say a thing about it.” If he spits inn her face, Luke will be my hero. I thought with a silent chuckle. “Finally, Mr. Hood.” Squaler walked over to Calum’s desk, the power of Satan in her eyes. “You don’t even have a parent sending you to this school, now do you?”
