Lauren
"So...think you're ready?" Coleman asked.
Lauren nodded. "Yeah, I'm ready to give this a shot."
He handed her the protective glasses. She took them and placed them securely on her face. She then reached on her side to grab her gun from her belt. Once she had the gun in place, she knew all she had to do next, was line the gun right in the center of the target board.
Lining her gun in place, she was hoping to aim straight into the center of the board. She wanted to give a good first impression of her skills. Taking one last deep breath, she pulled the trigger on the gun, watching as in a few seconds...it periced through the center part of the target board.
Lauren smiled at her accomplishment, and decided to go for a head shot next. After that, another, after another, and after another. It's been awhile since she trained like this. It felt as if she was free for a moment. Free to shoot at anything without worrying. A drop of sweat rolled down her head as she was beginning to become hot. She decided to stop for a bit to take a rest.
She went to go sit at a near by bench. She pulled off the protective glasses and set them aside for just a bit. She pulled her hair out the pony tail and ran her hand through it.
"Need some water?" James out of nowhere said as he handed her a bottle of cold water.
"Yes I do, thanks." She said taking it and twisting the cap, to take a long drink.
"No problem. Thought you did pretty great out there you know?" He said taking a seat next to her.
Pulling the bottle away from her lips she nodded. "I think I did too, but you were better. How do you shoot like that?"
"Well ya know, practice makes perferct." He chuckled.
"That's your secret?" She smiled.
"Not really, but it's all I can come up with." He joked.
"So...how long have you been here?"
"About four years. I'm one the best. Without me, this station would be nothing." He smiled.
"I can see. But now I'm here, and I'm up for the challenge." She joked.
"Well challenge accepted." He gave a playful grin.
After about a few minutes of them chatting, Coleman came over.
"Well...I see you two already getting along."
"I was just giving her tips sir. She is a newbie after all." James said getting up.
"I saw your tatics Jhonson, and thought you did pretty well. After seeing that, I decided to give you your uniform today instead of next week." Coleman announced with a smile.
Lauren instantly had a shock look on her face. Could he be serious?
"Are you serious? Today?" She could hardly believe it.
"Yes of course. I mean, why wait. You already seem experience enough as it is. Just promise me you won't mess up ya here?" Coleman said giving her a stern look.
She nodded. "Of course, I promise."
"I'm sure she will do great." James spoke up for her.
"If so, then let's go get your uniform ready." Coleman said with yet another one of his tired yawns.
"Alright." She said and started to head out.
"Lauren wait." She felt James hand in her shoulder.
"Yes?"
He pulled back scratching his head. "If you ever need help with anything, or need anything at all, I'm your guy."
She gave him a warm smile. "Thanks, I'll be sure to look for you then.
And with those words, she knew she would later regret.
