Chapter 11 || Partners

Lauren

So far everything has been just as she hoped. She got the job just like that. Now as she stood in the bathroom stall, she was finishing putting on her police suit. All she has to do now was get paired up with a partner. But Lauren wonders who could it be? Would they work good together? All these possible thoughts kept running through her head, on what type of partner she would have.

Finally stepping out the stall, she walked over to the sink to splash some water in her face. Cool water always relaxed her from stress. Made her feel as if she was swimming in the  ocean. She grabbed a paper towel to dry her face as she looked at herself in the mirror. Her hair was done up in a nice tight bun, but little brown strains of her hair decided to stick our around her edges.

She smiled back at herself as she admired her police suit. It fitted her nicely, showing her curves a bit. Taking one last glance at herself, she exit out of the women restroom. As she came out, she almost ran into James and gasp.

"Oh my! I didn't see you there." She took a quick step back with a hand over her chest.

James only gave her a grin. "I'm sorry to scare you, I was waiting for you to come out. Coleman told me to come get you," He paused looking at her suit. "And you really look nice in that...very nice."

Lauren smiled. "It's fine and thanks. We should get going yeah?"

James scratched his head a nodded. "Yeah we should. Are you excited?" He asked as he lead the way back to the office.

"Excited for what?"

"To find out who your partner would be...maybe it could be someone you least suspect..." He said in thought, but then smiled again.

She shrugged. "Eh, maybe."

For all she knows, she hope it's someone who she could trust and get along with. Not some control-freak-wanna-be. As soon as they made it back to the office, Coleman sat behind his desk with a big smile.

"I have come to a decision...a decision from James himself." He stated.

Lauren just gave a look. "And what is that decision?" Don't tell me that I'm fired already...

"You'll be his partner. He asked me to pair you guys up and I agreed only beacuse I feel like you two would make an interesting team." He smiled now.

"Yeah...I know I didn't give you time to have a say in, but I feel if you work with me, we'll make a great team." James spoke up.

She thought she saw him giving her a pleading look, but only for a second as he looked away.

"Well...I don't see any problems with us being paired up, so why not?" She smiles.

James out of the blue gave her a tight hug. "You won't regret this."

She was startled, but gave him a hug back. "I hope not."

He let her go and looked back at Coleman. "So, when do we both go on patrol?"

"You can start today, if Lauren is up for it."

"What do you say? How about today?" James asked her.

"You're anxious I see." She laughed.

"Haha...yeah just been awhile since I had a partner you know..." His voice trailed off as if he was in thought.

She shrugged her shoulders. "Well if your up for it, then so am I."

His eyes lit up. "Well then, I'll show you to the cars."

"You guys will be taking patrol today, if you don't see anything  unusual then report back to the station for further orders," Coleman paused to look at Lauren. "Im counting on you Lauren. "

"I won't let you down sir, I promise." She gave a serious look.

He smiled. "Now get out of here you two. Get busy."

James walked and openedthe door for her. "After you."

She smiled and walked out. "Thank you."

11:20am August 28, 2018

"It feels good to be back working." She spoke up from the silence.

They were both in front of a grocery store taking watch.

"You know, I thoughtthis would be more interesting." She said with a sigh.

"Even around the most boring area's, there's trouble. It's not that bad. You gotta wait for the pray to strike to take action." James said with a smile.

He looked over at her with the biggest smile ever. She started to laugh lightly.

"What are you doing?"

"Just trying to put smile on your face. No lady should be frowning on a beautiful day like this." He stated.

"You're right about that." She said. She don't know why, but every second he would stare at her.

She felt awkward and began to talk. "Well...I'm kinda hungry. Could we maybe go inside the store for some lunch?"

"Oh your hungry, I'll go get us something-"

"No it's fine I could pay for my own food." She began.

James gently placed his hand on top of hers. "It's fine really...I'll pay. My treat." He gave her hand a little stroke with his thumb.

She looked where his hand was and slowly pulled hers back. "Um...okay."

"Sorry, didn't realize I did that. I'll be right back. If you see anything out of the ordinary let me know." And with that said he got out the car, and head inside the store.

Lauren don't know why, but the way he touched her hand made her feel a little uncomfortable. But maybe she overreacted. He could have did it in a friendly manner. She was sure of herself. But something in the back of her head said she wasn't.
