Kahless! How long could that shower possibly be taking? Report immediately to the Council.

Kahless sighed. Her one good day and the Council had to ruin it. Lovely. But she reminded herself that with the Anarchists' help, they would soon be dethroned.

She typed a quick reply to Blacklight.

Sorry, I'll be there as soon as possible.

She knew that if she tried to explain herself she'd only make the situation worse. Anything she could say would involve forgetting, and that excuse was not going to fly with the Renegades.

You'd better.

----------

"Where have you been?" Tsunami asked suspiciously.

"I hadn't slept well the past few nights so I fell asleep. I meant to take a shower but I realized I just needed some rest. When your message woke me up I didn't mean to, but I fell asleep again. I regret that."

Tsunami still looked suspicious. "Fine. Apology accepted. But we have a mission for you."

Captain Chromium continued the statement. "Nightmare's gun, we have found, was made by Gene Cronin. We have decided that surveillance of the public library is the best course of action. It would be a good time to remember all of what happens there. You'll take the day surveillance, Adrian's team will take the night. The new recruit, Insomnia, will be quite helpful for this mission."

Kahless couldn't help but feel a burst of smugness at the Captain's mention of Nova. They had no idea that she was actually the infamous supervillain Nightmare.

"Right. When does that start?" she asked.

"Tomorrow."

"I'll be there," Kahless said before turning on her heel and exiting the throne room.

----------

"What do they need you to do?" Max wondered when Kahless neared him.

"Not much; just surveillance on the library where Mara works. I do the day, and Adrian's team does the night. But I have a feeling Nova will have a plan for that. And so I'll watch tonight too. I don't want to miss all the action." She winked.

"Of course." Max grinned. "So you're a villain now?"

"To get technical, not really. Nova is my friend and I agree with her views, but I don't really trust or side with the other Anarchists. But in a way, I guess I'm a villain."

"Can't the Council hear you through your communicator band?" Max asked. He wasn't scared, Kahless knew, because he understood that Kahless remembered everything and wouldn't make a decision without thinking through all of the consequences. He just wanted to know what her plan was.

"It turns out that water damage can have some interesting effects on a communicator band microphone. Who knew?" She smirked mischievously.

"I had no idea," Max said, also with a grin, though not as mischievous.

"Where did Mara go?"

"She went home. Thought her father could use some help with the house," Max told her.

Kahless smiled. That girl was overly kind. She knew that Max and Kahless were the best of friends and that they might need some time alone together, especially when Mara had been entering the quarantine so often when Kahless couldn't.

"I'll thank her later. She really is too kind."

"Thank her? For what?" Catching his mistake, he added, "Besides being the kindest most selfless person on the planet, of course."
