I always needed time on my own
Last week, you and ----- had broken up, due to him not giving you any space at all.

Most of the time, he stayed with you, sleeping in the same bed under different blankets. Now, with him gone, you just had one set of blankets to fix in the mornings.
When you walk away I count the steps that you take

You counted the steps that he took, one, two, three, four. Another step away from you, towards someone else.

Your heart was breaking without him, falling into little pieces.

He gave you one of his shirts before the breakup, and when you missed him more than you could handle, you curled up in the shirt and sobbed, missing the way he smelled, the way he felt.
