Castle in the Sea

Oh, I'm just a lonely poet
Darling, I live in these pages
Melting into these words
And falling between these spaces
I'm covered in dust
Oh, I'm pressed between the covers
Just an old frayed page
With ink blotches
outlining old lovers

I am scribbled down words of love
And secret words of yearning
Beautiful lines and love-struck soliloquies
Memories from a beautiful time
Every poem I wrote rhyming
With hot summers and cold nights
Long walks and awkward goodbyes
Heartbreaks and foolish fights
Any tragic, beautiful thought
That inspired this lonely poet

A poem for each breath we took
And every lovely moment
I'm building poems into my heart
They fold in around me
and paint my dreams
I am just a lonely poet
Living inside these old memories
Every syllable gently sings
A romantic hymn
And rusty reverie

I'm bleeding into these dusty pages
Like old spilled ink
This lonely poet's creating
A poem-filled sea
I can drown in every rhyme
And still be able to breathe
I could spend eternity here
And build a castle in this sea

But I know I'm no good at happy
And it's tragically beautiful
Like the peace after a storm
I may never have my castle in the sea
But I'll settle for being a lonely poet
I might feel my love floating away
Drifting out on each wave
And I've got a paper heart
And an ancient soul
But every poem I write still smells like new
And even in these lonely pages
This lonely poet still loves you
