Jenny had honey hair and ocean eyes
She started a life with her college sweetheart
He had big hopes and wanted to give her his life
He promised he'd never let her go
She never saw that car coming through the rain
He put his fist through the wall when he found out
She's never coming home again
He cried on the floor screaming "Take me! Take me!"
But his heart keeps beating
Lizzy was a beauty queen
She had rosy cheeks and a million dreams
She was gonna change the world someday
She never thought she'd be a pregnant teen
Mom and dad kicked her out and the father's no help
She bled into the bathtub until her lips were blue
When they brought her back they asked her
"What's your life mean to you?"
She screamed "Nothing! Nothing!"
But her heart keeps beating
Adam had a passion that could light up the night
His talent burned brighter in a small town
Everyone thought he was gonna be somebody
He was gonna make his parents proud
He got a little lost after graduation
Now he lights up in a different way
He'll never admit he's so ashamed
Too broken to change his situation
His parents wonder where he is that night
He wants this hit to be his last
He takes it deeper and cries "End me! End me!"
But his heart keeps beating
So much to hide away, so much shame
We keep walking around
Wishing we could make a change
Undo everything that's settled down
And go back to a better day
But we carry forward into tomorrow
And the seasons keep changing
We try to swallow up all the sorrow
While our hearts keep beating
