The door opens and there stood the woman I was despising to meet all these years. Her brown hair that was starting to grey was down to her shoulders. Her bright green eyes were all that stood out.
"Hello Elijah. How may I help you today?" She asked as she walked closer to us. What does she even do?"Greetings, Grace. I brought you a guest today." Elijah's deep voice was all I could concentrate on. I snuck my hand into his from getting the feeling of dizziness. At this moment I didn't think anything of it.
"This is Talia Anderson. Your daughter to be more specific." The woman looked at me with such curiosity."Talia?" She whispers to me. She places her hand on my shoulders and takes a good look at me. She takes me into a hug and sighed with relief. I was stunned and didn't know what to do. I looked up to Elijah and whispers to me an order. I wrapped my arms around my mom and felt as if a million butterflies exploded, and not in the good way. It was the way that I wanted to break down and start crying. So I did so, I grabbed onto my mom and started to break down. I felt Elijah's presence slowly fade away.
"So, what do you want to know?" She asked as we pulled away from each other. I couldn't stop my tears from falling. Elijah brings over a tissue box and hands me many tissues.
"I think she needs a moment to reset." Elijah spoke to my mom as if I was some type of android. He walks me out of the room and sits me down on the ground. He kneels in front of me and hands me more tissues.
"I do-don't understand why this-this is happening." I cried out to him with tears still streaming down my face.
Flashback
"Hello Tali!" My moms blurry face finally cleared. She held Cole in her hands with a smile painted on her face.
"Momma?" I reached for Cole. She rejected my grabs and kept pulling Cole away slowly. My dad comes up and shoots me into the air and carried me on his shoulders all around the entertainment room.
"Dammit Hank, put her down. She don't deserve it." She spoke with such slang. I remember not knowing how to react. My father instantly sighed and put me back on the ground with such care.
"Talia, listen to my words carefully. You may only be 5 years old, but you need to remember this. Your mom doesn't appreciate you as much as she does Cole. She says it's because of your differences. You'll realize this through your whole life. But you know what I say to them? Fuck you." He spoke to me with such elegance at first.
"Fuck you." I smiled at the words. He nods and whispers something to me.
"That's what you say to momma."
Present.
"I'm okay. I'm okay now." I sighed and took Elijah's hand to stand. "I don't know what happened to me... I feel so embarrassed. I just broke down in front of you and I only met you yesterday..."
"Talia, I'm a grown man. I'm can stand people breaking down. Especially you. You seem like a fragile person who doesn't deal with anger well. I'm always here though. There's always a chance I'll make a little fun of you, but I would never speak bad to you." Elijah puts his arm around my shoulders and guides me back into the room where my mother last stood.
"Mom. Why did you hate me. What was so hatable about a little six year old?" I questioned with such delicacy. She looked down and didn't want to answer the question. I looked up to Elijah with determination to break this woman.
"I need a moment." She slips out of the room. I felt the anger rise in me as she left the room. Elijah turned to me and stared me down.
"Talia, use your inner anger. Show the woman that she was wrong. That she ruined your life. There's no need to hold back now." Elijah orders with experience. I nod and watch the woman walk back into the room.
