"Here you go, babe," I say, bending down to hand Tobias his refilled cup of coffee.
"Thank you," he replies setting the mug down to the side of his current project. I kiss his head before sinking onto the soft white rug where Tobias and I are currently putting our baby's crib together.
Tobias got home from spring training a few days ago and soon after that, we cleared out the guest room, which is now the nursery. We'd been meaning to do that for awhile, but unfortunately we didn't get a chance to before Tobias had to leave for spring training. Also once we had cleaned the room out, we went furniture shopping for the nursery and got a changing table and rocking chair/recliner along with the crib.
Less than five months until the munchkin gets here and I can't wait.
Anyway, we're finding out the gender today and I couldn't be more excited. Tobias and I are having a little party with our friends and family this afternoon, and it's going to be at a park with a little league field. The reason it's going to be at the field is that on Etsy I found a little baseball that I'm going to toss to Tobias, and when he hits it, it'll "explode" with either pink or blue powder.
My mom already knows the gender because I needed someone to get the right baseball so we know if it's a boy or a girl.
Since I'm so excited, I was barely able to sleep last night, like a little kid the night before Christmas. Tobias woke up around seven and made me breakfast, and since then we've been putting little bits and pieces of the nursery together.
"Do you need anymore help, babe?" I ask, taking a sip of my decaf coffee.
"No, I'm almost done," Tobias answers, leaning over to press his lips to mine. "You can go get ready if you want."
"Really? Are you sure you don't need anymore help?"
"Yup," he says, popping the 'p'. I giggle, kissing him on the cheek. With my coffee mug in my hand, I stand up and playfully ruffle Tobias's hair before walking out of the room.
After a long, hot shower that I so deserved, I wrap a towel around my body and head to my closet. I quickly get dressed once I pick out a striped gray and white T-shirt midi dress and white slide on sandals.
"There's my gorgeous wife," Tobias whispers in my ear as his hands land on my waist.
"And here's my handsome husband," I smile, kissing him. Tobias runs his fingers through my damp hair as I loop my arms around his neck. He places a kiss on my hairline, and then another on my temple.
"Babe?" I ask softly, but it isn't enough to get his attention. I try again. "Babe."
"Hmm?" he murmurs, continuing to brush my hair with his fingers.
"What would you think if I cut my hair?" I continue and bring my fingers to his hair.
"What?" Clearly he's surprised, I love my hair long, and this is the only way he's ever seen it.
"I don't know," I backtrack, "it was just a thought."
"You know I love you no matter what, right?" He responds, cupping my face with his hands. "Doesn't matter if your hair is short or long, blonde or black. You'd look beautiful to me with any haircut." I let out a laugh, hugging him close to me.
"I don't think I'll be dyeing my hair black anytime soon," I counter, making Tobias chuckle.
"Didn't think so," he says and we laugh together. I wrap my arms around his torso as he pulls me in for a kiss.
+ + + + +
Anxiously tapping my cup on the table, I watch as friends and family draw tally marks on either side of the chalkboard to cast their vote for a boy or a girl.
