At lunch the next day, Lauren sat alone as usual. She didn't like anyone sitting with her, she liked to be alone with her thoughts. She was alone until someone sat down across from her. It was Camila.
"What do you want?" Lauren asked Camila. Camila took a bite of her sandwich and looked at Lauren.
"You seemed lonely. So I came over to make you... Less lonely I guess. But, now I can see you didn't want it." Camila mumbled. Lauren sighed and picked at her lunch with her plastic fork. "Look Lauren, we're partners. We have to spend time together. It's not like I want to or anything, but we have to. So, sorry you don't like it that way."
Lauren sighed again. She set her fork down and turned to Camila. Her green eyes focused on the younger girl's face.
"Camila, I-" Lauren was cut off by a hysterical laughter coming from behind her. Camila and Lauren turned around and looked at who was behind them. A girl, who was tall, slim, had red long hair, and blue eyes was standing behind Camila and Lauren was laughing as if something was funny. "Can I help you?"
The girl stopped laughing and looked at Camila and Lauren. "Sorry, it's just - I didn't know this loser could actually get a girlfriend." The girl pointed at Camila, Camila looked down in embarrassment.
"Well, I think you misunderstood. We aren't together." Lauren said to the girl.
"Shoulda known. There's no way Camila here, could've gotten a girlfriend." The girl smirked and walked away. Lauren looked at Camila and furrowed her eyebrows.
"Who was that?" Lauren asked Camila. Camila sighed and looked at Lauren.
"That was Skylar Patterson. The biggest bitch this school has ever seen, or I've ever seen at least." Camila explained.
"Why doesn't she like you?" Lauren asked cocking her head to the side.
"Cause I'm gay..." Camila trailed off. Lauren furrowed her eyebrows.
"She's homophobic?"
"I don't know. She picks on everyone, but she especially picks on gay people."
"Then I guess you won't be the only one that's picked on."

During health class, Camila and Lauren talked away.
"So, I have an idea for you." Camila said walking back to her desk with Lauren. Lauren sighed.
"That doesn't sound good." Lauren joked. Camila fake laughed as they say down. "What is it?"
"So, you remember Dinah right?" Lauren nodded her head. "Well, break is coming up. And she invites her friends to go on vacation with her. Anyway, she invited you to go."
Lauren squinted her eyes. "Why?"
"I don't know. She wants you to be friends with us, or something like that." Camila replied. "You don't have to come, but, I think you would really have fun."
Lauren saw the bit of hope in Camila's eyes. She sighed. "I'll think about it, okay?"

After school, Lauren went straight home. When she got to her house, she sat down and talked to her brother.
"Oh, by the way, Mom texted me today. She said her and Dad were in town and that she wanted to pop in to see how we were doing." Chris explained to Lauren.
"Well, you can tell her that I not gonna be here for her check in." Lauren replied. Chris furrowed his eyebrows.
"You don't even know when they're coming Lauren." Chris said to his sister.
"I don't need to know. I just know that I won't be here for it. And before you ask, it's none of your business." Lauren responded.
Lauren went upstairs to her bedroom. She looked around the room, her whole room had been her own creation. She had painted on the walls, she painted things that meant a lot to her. The moment she got home from jail she had painted a pair of handcuffs on the white wall. Lauren walked across the room and picked up her paint pallet. She got out a brush and stroked it in the paint, the wall next. When she was done she set the brush and paint down, she looked at her painting. A pair of brown eyes she had painted were now staring into her real green eyes. The pair of eyes she painted weren't a strangers eyes, they were eyes she knew. They were indeed Camila's eyes.
