I wake up but I'm in my own room. My Aunt is downstairs and I can hear her messing in the kitchen. Sitting up I grab my pack and see school assignments and my supplies.
I run into my bathroom and look into the mirror. Something I've avoided for years.
The girl who looks back at me sends chills through me.
Her mouth is twisted into a grin.
Her eyes are all black.
Her hair is stringy and long.
Her skin is pale, almost transparent.
But this girl is me.
But I'm not smiling.
I turn my head and watch out of the corner of my eye, but she doesn't move.
Taking deep breaths I back away from the mirror and she lifts her hand to the glass and presses it through palm first.
-
"Wake uppppppp."
I shoot up and see Alice looking at me curiously.
"Everything alright?"
I look around and see the room, my new one.
Shaking my head I press the heals if my hand into my eyes and say quietly, "Yes, just peachy."
"Okayyyy," she says, "Well we have group so pick a pair of scrubs so we can go."
Groaning I pick up a dark purple pair and slip them on.
-
"Alright," Susan says clasping her hands and the golden bangles jingle, "We are going to introduce ourselves and have an activity day today."
There are a few groans but they start doing as she says.
A boy who looks like your average quarter back star starts, "I'm Leo and I'm 17 hating every moment here."
The girl next to him is small and quiet as she says, "Kara, I'm 15."
Another girl who looks goth says, "Amber, 17."
And on and on.
There are 26 of us here and some seem okay and some scare me.
I'm just want to go home.
After group we are allowed to either go back to our rooms, commons, the gym, cafeteria, or the showers.
I choose the showers.
When Susan escorts me she says quietly, "Don't worry love. You don't have to face anything alone. You're here now and you're safe. We are here to help you. Now after you're done here you can choose one of those places or even the garden area to go to."
-
I walk into the bathroom and look around.
There are ten sinks on one wall with a mirror above each one.
There are also ten toilet stalls.
And then there is a giant shower.
The type that are at the gym where you have to just strip and shower. The one people all hate. Because why would you want the world to see you bare? Nude? I mean that's intimate, and some people can't even do that until they properly trust someone, and even then it's hard. People have flaws.
Enough.
I'm rambling.
I turn on the shower head in the corner. A spot where if the door opens whoever comes in cannot see me and I can get dressed or covered.
They cannot see what's underneath these scrubs.
-
Short I know.
But next chapter is going to be a long one.
