"I don't believe you!" I blurted, "There's no way, people aren't supposed to be familiars! But, you're a superhero, you can still fight? Familiars are supposed to be spirits, right!?"
"No... they can be people, too." Chat explained, "As unusual as it may seem, human familiars can take on the form of an animal of their choice in order for their user to... summon them. But, in human form, they can personally communicate with their summoner... which is why you don't see very many, because they're rare, and can be powerful."
   "I didn't know that." I whispered.
"Homeschooling has me a couple years ahead..." he admitted, "But, that's enough... Marinette, I'm sorry I never told you. To be honest, I was terrified of telling you."
"I honestly can't believe it." I sat down, "You're... my familiar? Then, why aren't you a black cat?"
"Well, I can be." he answered.
"Transform." I asked him. He turned around, and mumbled something. A wave of green light flashed, and then it stopped. I opened my eyes, and looked down. There was a black cat on the floor. He turned around, and my jaw dropped. "Oh my goodness, you really are Kitty. T-Turn back... I believe you." he did, and he sat down next to me. "How?" I asked him, "How did I summon you?"
"Well, I don't know that myself." he answered, "But I was summoned for a reason." he answered.
"But, you're Chat Noir... how do you fight with Ladybug?"
"I become Chat Noir, just as she becomes Ladybug."
"But, she has some special thing she wears." I replied, "And so do you... isn't that this ring?" I pointed to the black ring on his finger.
"Well, why do you think I have a collar as a familiar?" he asked me, "That's where my ring is..."
"But... I don't get it. You can touch things. Most familiars practically run through windows... they're spirits, but you're not... are you?"
"No, I'm not a spirit. I am very much still alive... unless you count my own soul."
"But then that would make you human, but you're magical... you're a wizard!"
"Don't you think I'd have my own familiar if that were the case?" he asked me.
"I... I guess you would. I really do have a human familiar." I smiled, "Who is also a black cat."
   "Precisely." he answered.
"Are you sure? You could be a guardian angel or something."
"That's very flattering," he chuckled, "But I am no angel, either. Otherwise, I'd be sporting some awesome wings."
"I just can't wrap my head around this... I've never met a single witch or wizard with a human familiar... ever." I bent down, "But I really did summon you, at least you in a cat form." I rubbed my forehead, "You really are my familiar... I did the spell right, didn't I?"
"I'm sure you did." he stood up, "But, I understand if you don't want me around after this..."
"No!" I got up, "No, I didn't mean to make anything sound like that!"
"You didn't... I just don't know if anyone wants me as a familiar." he turned away, "Human familiars aren't really too desirable, you know."
"Chat," I hugged him from behind, "Don't leave me, ever, please?"
   "R-Really?" he turned around.
"You're not only my friend, but I guess I summoned you as well. It's almost like the world screaming at us to stick together, you know? I'm not the kind of person to leave my gut instinct,  either. I refuse to let you leave this apartment and live anywhere else. I want you to stay with me, and not just help me, but help Paris as well."
   "Absolutely." he smiled.
"I'm not going to let our bond stop you from your job, and from seeing Ladybug. I know how much you care for her." I smiled, "You're one of the two superheroes in Paris, and I will not allow you to leave that all behind. But... do you have to return to the Spirit World?"
"No." he answered, "As long as I eat one thing at least once a day."
   "What's that?" I asked him.
   "Camembert cheese." he answered.
   "Camembert?" I asked him.
   "Weird, right?"
"Well, I guess anything can happen now, right?" I giggled, "Well, that's good to know. Maybe I can incorporate it in some recipes or something." I offered.
   "Really?"
"Well yeah, if it's something you need in order to stay. As your summoner, it's my job to provide you with stuff... it's all part of the reason you're here in the first place."
"Thank you, Princess." I blushed a little, "Y-Yeah, no problem. I heard a ding, and turned to the oven, "Well, that's the quiche... do you mind setting the table? There's plates up in the cupboard."
"No problem." he answered. I cut the quiche up, and set it on the table to cool for a little. "Anything else?"
"No, I think this is good..." I looked around. "After this, I'm gonna pack our lunches."
   "Our lunches?" he asked me.
   "For school...?" I answered...
"Oh, right... that's a thing now." he nervously chuckled, "You're making me a lunch, too?"
"Of course!" I answered, "You have to eat during the day, too."
"Thank you, Mari." he sat down, "The quiche looks amazing."
"Sure thing." I replied, taking a small bite. I was a little upset during dinner, but Chat would get upset if I showed it. Quiche was something my parents and I would bake together. I think the idea of my parents not being around was starting to affect me, emotionally. The idea of not having the room I grew up with, and the things I was around every day... I missed it. Dinner was an easy clean up. I stored the quiche in the refrigerator, and I whipped up two quick lunches for me and Chat tomorrow. I cleaned up the kitchen, and gave Tikki a cookie in my room, so she could eat something. Night fell pretty quickly, all the while, I was fumbling with some homework in the living room. If there was one class I wasn't looking forward to tomorrow, it was definitely Ms. Mendeleiev's class... she taught us potion making, math and chemistry. Tomorrow was going to be a test on some of the potions we learned to make, and I was getting really confused with the recipes. Chat had watch for a little while, but he came back early.
"What are you doing?" he asked me.
"I'm trying to study for this test I have tomorrow... you seem to know some stuff about potions, maybe you can help me...?" I asked.
"Yeah, of course." he sat down next to me, "Oh, this is on differences in recipes, I can imagine why it'd be hard." Chat took 2 hours to explain to me stuff, and by the time we were done, I seemed to understand it. I just hoped I didn't do too bad tomorrow.
"You're the best, Chat." I sighed, "I hate this class."
"Who's the teacher?" he asked me.
"Ms. M., or Mendeleiev... I'm still trying to get the right pronunciation."
   "Is she nice?"
"I wish." I frowned, "She's really mean, and has quite a short temper, which makes me question how she got around to teaching teenagers." I explained, "But this stuff changes every week, which can make it really confusing."
"Oh." he looked at the time, "Well, if you've got a test tomorrow, you better get ready for bed."
"You're right." I got up, and stretched a little, "I've got quite a day tomorrow. Thanks for helping me, Chaton."
"Again, it's no problem. If you need help again, feel free to ask." he smiled.
"I definitely might. See you tomorrow." I hugged him.
"Y-Yeah, see you." I headed to my room, and Tikki came out of hiding.
"Did you study?" she asked me.
"I did, and you know, Chat is pretty great at potions... apparently." I answered.
"Really? He helped you?" she asked me.
"Yeah." I started changing into my pajamas, "He did. I think I'm ready for the test tomorrow."
"That's fantastic news, Marinette!" she cheered, "But, I've been meaning to ask you something."
   "Yes?"
"Doesn't it seem strange... you summoned Chat? I've had holders who have magic like you... and from my experience, they've never summoned a human, or even another holder... shouldn't he have an identity behind the mask?"
"I've been questioning it as well, but he was chosen for a reason." I answered, taking out my ponytails, "I can't question it... he was summoned by me, and to be completely honest, I'm happy with it."
   "You are?"
"It's definitely not normal, but so am I. I've always been told that I wasn't really expected to have magic... when it was discovered I did, it was almost a miracle. I would never be able to speak to you in the way I do, and I've learned that things happen for a reason. I mean, how else did I end up here, or meet you?"
   "I suppose."
"Chat Noir is not a bad person... as strange as it is having to live with my superhero partner... he doesn't know about Ladybug. And, we're both in very... difficult situations. We're both just trying to adjust, and I think I'm just going to live each day as it goes... and see where that takes me."
"You're a very kind person helping him out."
"He's helped me in return, but as my familiar, I guess he kind of has to, huh?" I giggled, "It'll be okay, Tikki. And if anything happens, I know I have you to help me."
"That's right. I think it's time you catch some sleep, you've got to have enough energy to finish that test."
"Yeah." I brushed my teeth, then hopped into my covers, "Goodnight Tikki, I'll see you tomorrow."
   "Goodnight, Marinette."

~~~~~~
   Hello! Well, this was kind of a sweet chapter. I wanted to have a moment with Tikki, so I'm really happy that happened. In other news, I'm so relieved because we're finally in a house and I've got a nice room. It's been a crazy journey, but I'm very blessed that everything's sort of settling down in my personal life, and hey, now I get to decorate a whole new room so that's pretty cool! That also meant that I went a whopping 6 days without wifi... ugh! To make for the lack of chapters, I'm gonna update this book with two chapters today, and then go back to the one chapter plan starting on Thursday. Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter, and I'll see you in the next one! ~Morgan
