"Alright, class, back to business, and this time, if there's any interruptions, you will be sent directly to the Principal's office." Ms Mendeleiev pointed to the board, "The instructions to this lab are in the packets I have laid out on the workplaces. Each partnership needs to have one desk, and make sure your familiars are visible, it's vital that you use them to help you." I picked up Chat, and set him on the table. He sat down, and looked around. "Okay, I will give you one hour to complete the lab. Easy, you don't do it right, you'll get points taken off. If you do it successfully, your score will reflect that. I will answer questions if needed. All right, get started." I opened up the packet, and turned it to the side.
"I can't believe I've gotta do this alone." I mumbled, "And I can't believe Chloe would say that." Chat looked at me, and placed his paw on my arm.
"You can hear me again, right?" he asked me. He was talking to me again... through telepathy.
"Oh, thank goodness, yes I can." I answered. "Did you hear what she said?"
"Every bit of it. I'm very glad you didn't get physical with her. You held your ground, that's good. She seems pretty rude."
"She is... but I can't let that get to me right now. I have to do this lab all by myself, and I have no clue where to start."
"Allow me to help you." I pushed the packet a little to the side so he could read it too. "Okay, you're making an added strength potion... this is going to be a bit of a challenge. The goal of the potion is to give someone added strength, so they can lift heavier objects and look physically stronger."
"How is it complicated?"
"You have to make two separate potions, and then you combine those with another ingredient to make the strength potion."
"Oh no, I have to make two potions in an hour? No kidding, this really was a partner lab."
"You can do it, Mari. Start with this one, it's the easiest out of the two." Chat used his paw to point to the one on the right, "All you need is 100 grams of water, five drops of sunflower oil, one gold lily petal, and two drop of a Witch's blood. Then, you gotta use me to get your 1/32 teaspoon of essence."
"That's the recipe for a magical healing potion."
"How'd you know that?" he asked me.
"I've seen it in a book before. What does it have to with strength?"
"Restores the muscle, so when it wears, your muscles aren't damaged." he answered, "But that's not important. What's important is that you make this in less than 10 minutes."
"Okay." I grabbed the stuff, and headed back. "I have to poke myself." I grabbed a sterile pin, and pinched my pinkie finger. I held it over a glass bottle, and put two drops of blood in it. I immediately wrapped up the small poke with a bandage, and then I dried up the petal, and crushed it until it was really fine. I sprinkled that in. Then, I put in the water and sunflower oil. I mixed it, and then I turned to Chat. "How do I collect my essence?"
"Close your eyes, and whisper biocandhem."
"Then what?"
"I will finish the rest." Chat answered, "Okay, go."
"Biocandhem, biocandhem..." I whispered, and felt my body get lighter. Then, I finished. I opened my eyes, and widened them. Before me, was a small pouch of what was probably my own essence. It was a light pink. I grabbed a jar, and scooped it up. I closed the jar, and it stopped glowing. It was usable. A magic user's essence was infinite, until their very last breath. But why we'd have to use it in a potion was beyond me... guess it was time to figure it out. I grabbed the 1/32 teaspoon, and opened up the pouch. I scooped some of it up, and poured it into the potion.
"Step back, it will release smoke three times if you did it correctly." Chat advised. I backed up, and he was right, it released a smoke three times. Then, it was light pink.
"Amazing. What next, partner?" I asked him.
"This is where things get technical. You need to make a growth potion."
"Growth?"
"Yes, when using it alone, it can enlarge anything you choose to give it to by as much as twenty times. This one requires more stuff."
"Okay." I read the ingredients, and grabbed everything, then went back to my table, "1/4 cup of distilled water, two leaves from a twisted tree, one drop of juice of a berry from an everlasting bush, 1 scale from a silver toothed snake, two small pieces of bark from a expanding branch, and 1/32 of essence." I mumbled.
"Okay, best way to do this stuff, crush the bark in a separate bowl, you don't want contamination from the flower, and you don't want moisture from rinsing it out. Take the juice out with a syringe, and dry the leaves, then crush them with another separate bowl. You'll have to put the scale in third; It disintegrates when in contact with the berry. Always put essence last."
"How...?"
"Just go, Mari. You can do it."
"Okay." I measured the water, and poured it in another potion bottle. I took the juice, and put one drop in the bottle. Then, I dropped the scale in. It successfully dissolved into the potion... after 5 minutes. I crushed the leaves and the bark separately and put them both in. Finally, I measured my essence, and put it in.
"This one makes a really soft pop. If you did it wrong, the glass will crack, and could fall to the floor. If you did it right, nothing will happen except for the pop." The potion popped, and I jumped a little, but it didn't crack. "Great job, Marinette!" Chat exclaimed, "Okay, now read the last stuff."
"Okay, now I have to combine both of them, add one feather from a hawk, and two drops of fresh orange juice."
"The orange juice will mask the other flavors. The feather needs to be dissolved in the healing potion, if it gets in contact with that bark, it won't dissolve." Chat explained, "Do that first."
"Okay." I dropped the feather into the potion, and it started dissolving.
"15 MINUTES, STUDENTS!" Ms. Mendeleiev yelled.
"Fifteen... this hasn't been an hour!" I freaked out.
"Mari, calm down, you are in a much better position than some of the other groups. Some people haven't even finished the first one."
"You're right. Okay, I can do this."
"The feather needs a little more time to dissolve, so drop the orange juice into the growth potion to save time. Then, once that feather is completely finished dissolving, you can mix the two, but pour the growth into the healing... not the other way around."
"Okay." As soon as I added the orange juice, the feather stopped dissolving, and I was left with two different mixtures."You said growth into the healing, right?" I asked him.
"Yes." he answered. I took the growth, and started pouring it into the healing one. It started mixing, "Okay, now step back, it'll start glowing and shaking a little, place it in the center of the table, and you will be left with a purple colored potion. That is a strength potion."
"Okay." I scooted it to the center, and it started shaking. I backed up, and ducked a little. It glowed, and then it just stopped. I looked up, and the color was a royal purple.
"Cap it."
"Right." I took a cork and sealed the bottle. Then, I took a string and a label and wrote "Strength Potion". I tied it around the neck of the bottle, and I had myself a Strength potion. I cleaned up my work space quickly, because I knew she'd take away points if I didn't, and successfully beat the clock. I checked my packet, and I filled in every check box, and every note thing in ten minutes. Then, the time was up. I did it! "Oh my goodness, I did it!"
"Of course you did, I knew you could do it."
"Oh Chat, I owe you big time."
"Well, we have to see if it works, first." she started heading to people's tables, and wrote down notes.
"Kim and Rose, you didn't even finish." she walked past, "Juleka and Alix, that is not a Strength potion. It's red, not purple."
"We followed everything." Alix put her head down. I was getting really nervous.
"Chloe and Sabrina... well, it looks like a Strength potion. Mind if I try it?" she asked them.
"S-Sure..." Sabrina answered. She opened it, and smelled it.
"Nevermind, that does not smell like a Strength potion. It's supposed to smell like the flower and the orange."
"Oh no... I forgot the orange juice." Sabrina whined.
"Sabrina!" Chloe growled, "We were the closest!"
"I haven't finished evaluations." Ms. M. replied, "Let me finish." Everyone else was close as well, but they were all not Strength potions. She came to me last. "How was it working alone?"
"Really difficult. But, I have a Strength potion." I answered. She picked it up, and opened it. She smelled it, before smiling a little, "A very pleasant smell, and a very nice purple. Do you mind if I try a little?"
"Go ahead." I answered. She took a small potion bottle, and a syringe, and picked up some of the potion. She squeezed the syringe into the smaller bottle, and looked at it. It was still royal purple. She tasted it, and smiled a little,
"It tastes like a Strength potion. Let me try lifting something. Hold your potion." I did, and Chat came to my lap. She took the table, and proceeded to lift it over her head. Everyone gasped. "That is a Strength potion, let me see your packet." she took it, and flipped through it. I made little notes, and she closed it. "Congratulations, you have an A. Everyone else, B. You tried. Class dismissed early."
"Oh my god... I got an A!" I cheered. "Thank you, Chat. I think we should celebrate tonight."
"How?"
"We should go out to dinner, it'd be so fun!"
"Can you?"
"I just need to change my look a little..."
"Okay. Let's get some lunch."
"Agreed."~~~~~~
This one was a little longer than the other chapters... well, I guess that's just more for you all to read, right? I'm going to upload two chapters today... just because I want to. See you soon!
