Leo's POV:
We were in small town Virginia. I was skipping down a dark alley waiting to be attacked by our target. My eighteenth birthday was tomorrow and I was in a good mood despite the hunt. In the past two years a lot had changed. I had mid-life crisis, or mid-teen crisis? Not sure what it's called, but re-evaluating my life and choices I'd made had been difficult. Now I'm on the eve of becoming an adult and I'm at a loss for what to do honestly. Hunting has been a god send, you get lost in the feeling until nothing else is relevant except the hunt. I could spend the rest of my life hunting and never have a care in the world for the demigods and their parents. I could stay lost forever and who would think to look for me? No one! Still I knew my life was empty in a big way and no matter what I try that hole won't fill. It makes me nervous and agitated. This hole was gnawing at me. I'd have to do something about it eventually. It wasn't that what I currently have is bad, it's more that a piece is missing. At first I thought that piece was just my grief for what I'd discovered about the gods. Now I'm certain that piece is the piece of my identity I gave up in that burning mansion. The demigod side of me...
We'd run into a couple more gods and that was rough. Learning there were more types of gods than just Greek and Roman had been a bit of a hard pill to swallow as well, but not entirely an unexpected one either. Somewhere in my brain I had pondered the thought that perhaps there were more than just the two types of gods, but until I'd met a Hindu and Norse god, I almost hadn't believed it. Sam had been a great help in that regard. He helped me get up to speed on a bunch of other pagan deities. Several other gods had also made me the same offer Zelus did. Each of them melted rather spectacularly. I'd decided my fire's purpose now was to kill gods. Everything else I'd use Celestial Bronze for.
Jody and Claire joined us on most hunts because Claire now did her schooling online so it could be more flexible to her hunting schedule. At first Jody had been reluctant to accept that I didn't attend school, but came around fast when reminded I'm officially dead and wanted by the foster care system. Until tomorrow that is. Once I'm eighteen, even if it is discovered I'm alive, I'm free as a bird. Fully independent adult, able to do as I pleased. There would likely be questions about why I didn't tell any one I was alive, but I could always say I never realized any one thought I was dead and I wanted my space.
Even more impressively, a miracle had occurred. I grew almost an entire foot! I'm taller now! And working as a hunter has really helped me muscle out too. Feels amazing. I wonder if this is how Jason, Percy, and Frank feel all the time! ... I guess I won't get the chance to ask them.
Recently, my fashion sense has been under going an emo phase due to re-accessing my life choices, black is my new everything. I even got an eyebrow stud and my ears pierced; Claire's idea. I also decided, as a side project, I'd build myself a protective jacket. Occasionally I make varying changes and add features, but as it stands now it is made out of black leather with a buckle up front. It easily fits my tool-belt underneath and has a big hood that's good at shedding rain water. It boosts my confidence when I wear it because the bull hide padding in the torso of the jacket makes it less likely for me to die if attacked by something with claws. This was also why I'm comfortable playing bait, like I am right now.
Behind me I heard a faint growling, I continued down the alley. When the monster was right behind me, I pulled a celestial bronze dagger from my tool-belt, turned and swiped the Vamp's head off all in one smooth movement.
"Nicely done handsome," From behind a nearby dumpster, a dark haired woman in a biker get-up, carrying a whip, stepped from the shadows.
"What's with the whip? You a dominatrix?" I blurted out.
"Something like that," She flicked her arm sending the whip lashing towards my throat. I raised my arm quickly in defense. The whip stung as it wrapped around my forearm. She began to pull me towards her, unsheathing her fangs as she did so. "Come here sweet thing, I'm hungry!"
