Sam's POV:
Hunting with three demigods... was interesting. As Dean put it "like using a megaphone to announce a meat buffet to the spooks." We had no end of monsters stalking around our motel, or anywhere we went with Jason, Piper, and Leo. It got bad enough we considered calling Jodi to take Chance and Michael back to the bunker. For the next six days, we traveled around the New York area checking out possible "Gods" but most of them turned out to be vampires or regular demons. There was surprisingly a lot of just run of the mill demons hanging out around New York right now. All week, I watched as Piper and Jason seemed to get angrier and more savage in their kills.
"I told you before," Leo said with a shrug on Friday night as we were settling down at the motel; Jason and Piper having gone home already. "I was the repair boy on the Argo, not one of her main fighters."
I had new appreciation for the juggernaut of a fighting machine that must be the Greek and Roman demigod forces. Leo was next level, Piper and Jason were terrifying. If that was the spectrum, the mortal world didn't stand a chance if the demigods ever had a bone to pick with us. Dean and I could take down government special forces without a terrible amount of difficulty, the demigods would cleave through them like butter.
"This place is abandoned?" Piper asked from the back seat of the Impala as she stared up at the white sheet metal clad building. Around the eaves it had begun to rust and it was more graffiti than paint with weeds growing wild any where they could get purchase. It looked abandoned, except for the dark trickle of smoke coming out two of the three stacks on the roof.
"Someone's cooking something," Leo buckled his jacket shut as his leg bounced restlessly against the seat. "Another demon, you think?"
"We can handle it," Jason opened his door and the three demigods piled out. Dean and I scrambled after them. We'd tracked a bunch of disappearances to this supposedly abandoned warehouse. The smoke suggested otherwise.
"Let's stick together to begin with," Dean opened the trunk and pulled out our gear while the demigods unsheathed their varying weapons. "I only see one entrance, so we'll split into teams once inside."
"There might be a catwalk around the top," Piper was examining the warehouse. "Jason and I will go up once we find access."
"Eye in the sky," Leo twirled the hammers he'd pulled out of his tool belt. "If there's a lot of machinery or crates on the floor that would be smartest."
"Stay sharp," Dean handed me an angel blade and one of Leo's Celestial bronze dangers with the steel handles. "We don't know for sure what we're facing. Could be a demon, could be a vamp."
"Or a god," Jason's voice held an edge of malice that sent shivers down my spine. The air felt more charged as I glanced at Dean. The look he gave me seemed to say he'd intentionally not mentioned them so the demigods wouldn't get riled up.
"Leo," Dean stuffed a pistol in his waistband. "You going high with Jason and Piper?"
"He should go with you," Piper answered before Leo could. "He can protect you if it gets too bad in there."
"Hang on," Dean frowned. "We're the ones who've been doing this our whole lives. We don't need protection."
"You can't see through the mist," Jason started towards the warehouse. "You need one of us with you and you've been fighting with Leo for a decade now. He's your best choice."
"They're still getting used to the idea of mortals fighting monsters," Leo dropped back to walk with me and Dean as Piper walked in stride with Jason ahead of us. "And they're a little uh..."
"Devastated?" I glanced at him and he nodded, looking sadly after his friends. "We helped you through this, we can endure them going through it too."
"We adapt and get the job done," Dean clapped Leo on the back. He winced a little as Piper broke the deadbolt off the door with a blow from her dagger. "And try to get everyone out alive."
