Gabriella POV

I was standing beside Alec who was eating breakfast while George and Duncan walk in laughing and pushing each other around playfully, I rolled my eyes at their existence.

"Does it bother you that you're younger then your brother but you have more responsibility?" I asked straightforward

Alec looks up at George who was across the room from us, and quickly looks down.

"We all have to do things we don't like"

"That's not fair, the least he could do is help you it's like you're carrying the weight of the world-"

"You're adorable you know that?" I chuckle.

"How about Duncan, is he a lost relative of yours."

"No he's my friend, he went to war along side my brother and ever since they got back they have this new profound fondness but also they despise each other"

"Maybe they're traumatised, seeing each others faces could be bringing up harsh memories that they are trying to suppress, or judging by the way he was speaking to me the other day he could just be a jerk." I shrugged

"They're clearly in love" Anita says walking into towards us with a mug, she quickly bows down to Alec and then continues "It's clear as day"

"Duncan is the epitome of masculinity. And my brother been in a lot of relationship with women plus they're like brothers so are you indulging in a daydream ?" Alec says amused leaning on the kitchen counter staring at Anita with his green eyes sparkling

"Brothers or lovers ?" Anita touches her chin, as if she was debating with her own thoughts.

"Alec could be right about this one, they seem to have a brotherly bond"

"Two people can be in love but not belong together you know" she sighs staring at George from a distance, I could see hearts in her eyes.

I glance at Alec who was already looking in my direction, could what she said be true? Could two people actually be in love and not belong together.

He breaks eye contact and looks at Anita, I realised that this was the first time they were both talking to each other informally.

"That sounds a little like hell" he mumbles

"It's almost romantic" she smiles back

"Or depressing" I add quickly,  staring at the ground

"I'm glad I found my soulmate" Alec sighs in relief

I shoot my head up and stare at him, for a second I thought those words where for me however I knew the harsh reality. Anita glances as me nervously, and then smiles and I couldn't bring myself to say anything.

And for the first time I learnt that silence was really loud, why was I so upset. I remember a friend of mind telling me the humans in this world either inspire you or destroy you and that I should pick them wisely.

"Damn... You can cut the tension with a knife, what the hell is going on in here please tell me! I need to know who fucked who right now." Duncan says walking towards us with George behind him.

We were now in a small circle of silence, non of us daring to say a word.

"The girls are talking about soulmates and I just said that I'm thankful I found Aria." He shrugs
