Author's Point Of View- (still)
Being Hyun-Shik's wife was like getting a ride with sunshine-colored-rainbows along with all the sweetest things. New clothes, new place, big room, everything was prepared for her.
Then, all her happiness were taken away little by little when Hyun-Shik started to show his controlling nature. Suits in monochromatic colors, the food that she ate, who she can befriend with, be that around him or other people. Being a much younger and obedient wife, Young-Min follows whatever Hyun-Shik told her to do.
"Hyun Shik-ssi, of course, there are music and drinks at the party. But, can't I see them? They are my old friends. I won't be long. I promise."
"Young-Min— Why would you see them? They did move on right? You don't have to dwell on the past."
"But—"
"Besides, you are the wife of a politician. Reporters bound to be there. Better not to risk anything."
With that, her mouth was shut, her intention was limited and she started to stop having a life outside of the bubble where Hyun-Shik wanted her to be.
Her young heart rebelled much but since Hyun-Shik was her first crush and love, she turned a blind-eye and embedded an illusion that Hyun-Shik love only came by controlling after a few talks with Suzanne, her only friend.
"He might be anxious about your beings, Young-Min. Yes, he is a well-known control-freak. You must know of that before you married him right?"
"You must understand the mentality of a politic man like him. Being forever afraid of scandals, being overprotective and such. He must have been so worried about not knowing where you are, who are you with. Just be patient, Young-Min-ssi. There are many ways of loving someone. Besides, it's been a long time since Hyun-Shik had a relationship. He's probably rusty. Give him time, he will surely come by."
That's what Suzanne said when she had come to seek her for advice. This added to the naïve and inexperience Young-Min, who has been feeding her confusion on what love and marriage supposed to be.
She had observed how his husband's affections were. Yes, he's jealous, overprotective and indifferent. But, along with that she kind of expect his husband to shower her with kisses or hugs.
But, she even got none of that. She never had much of romantic gestures by her husband. Awkward hugs, awkward body contacts and awkward kisses on the cheek in public were all that she ever got.
The only time she was enjoying herself was when there're reporters, in events, where her hand held by his and she could get a dance in public.
"Be pretty and stand beside me in every event at all time," he had always said.
"Smile. Bow and shake hands politely to all who come to you. Please don't embarrass me."
In the eyes of the public, Young-Min was portrayed as a happy enough-young-wife of a rising politician. At home, it was a complete opposite.
They even slept in the different room.
"I can't sleep if there are no lights. Sounds or snores are one of the things I would not tolerate with. I need to sleep as well to work diligently tomorrow."
He was also really uncomfortable with affections, despising sudden hugs, eye contacts or even a light peck on the cheek.
Little by little Young- Min started to acknowledge more of his husband's disliking for she was told by Suzanne of him being raised in a stern and strict household.
Even her in-laws expect her to be proper and prim as what his husband wanted her to do.
The second year was a prosperous year for Hyun-Shik when he was entitled as the top ten most influential people in the politic arena. A lot of votes siding to Hyun-Shik for he had a young wife and a loving household.
A great potential for a rising political figure, the media claimed.
But not his health.
His was deteriorating every day.
Young-Min first took that to her knowledge when she noticed that his husband's butler always came with a lidded-platter every 4 hours.
She knew this as she had attended to her grandmother before she died.
"A family curse diseases that inherited by their workaholic nature." The butler gave insight to her one day.
"I must tell you, Madam, so you can help him."
As for Young-Min, with the kindness of her heart, she threw several romantic gestures to make her husband feel better or show her supports at least.
"You don't have to attend to my beck and call. I have my butler to take matters in hand." His husband said when he found that Young-Mi knew of his condition.
After that everything started to get worst.
Her heart sank after constant rejections by Hyun-Shik.
"He's probably rusty. Give him time, he will surely come by."
Once a very confident woman, with lots of romantic gestures in mind had slowly made Young-Min felt useless and unattractive.
She prayed a lot since.
Praying for a little change.
Her confidence rendered as she needed affections, but no one, not her husband nor her in-laws could give her that.
Till that one day.
...
The other opposition had gain more votes recently as two new grandchildren emerged from the opposition party. Family themes drew more votes from voters as it seemed.
"You must make Young-Min pregnant. It is time, Hyun-Shik. We must get those votes back." said one of his relatives.
Young-Min's tears fall as she eavesdropped that conversation.
...
A devil's luck sided Hyun-Shik as his frozen sperms from 20 years ago was successfully revived.
And that gave Young-Min a chance to have her greatest gift that she had long waited for.
A child whom will grow inside of her and will love her back since her husband was lack of it.
In a mere moment, Young-Min prepared for it.
After the insemination, Young-Min spent her days praying. She kept checking, kept praying till one day, her prayers were answered.
On her eighth month of pregnancy, his husband died.
