Chapter 2

One Year Later

The day she was mostly dreading was finally here. The day she had to go back home with Adrian and Nora. She hadn't seen them in a year. They would occasionally come but Ezzy refused to see them. Everyone would complain about her not wanting to see them, but up to now, she hadn't met anyone with a worse life then hers. She'd been in jail eighteen times since she was in the sixth grade and most of them without proof. Adrian always called the cops on her for getting home too late at night or because she'd run away for long periods of time. The first time she was in there was because she beat a teacher up with a chair. He had touched her in ways no teacher should touch a student or kid ever. He ended up in jail for that, but she still had to do time herself. He got amnesia from that. He got thirty years in jail because he did it to many others before. She had just saved many other students from being touched improperly and no one was proud of her for that or all the good things she's done in her life. It's what led her to where she is now.

She started to get ready to go and said good-bye to everyone she knew well. She said bye to the guards, most of which she knew too well. They had guarded her before and they had become her friends. The door to the outside opened and Adrian and Nora were already waiting for her. They signed a few papers and Ezzy got all of her things. She got in the back seat of the car and saw a batch of orange roses beside her. Adrian and Nora got in the car and he started to drive. She hadn't seen home, if that's what she could call it, in a year, but he wasn't driving home. He was driving to the cemetery. She hadn't seen Adalin's tomb ever. This would be the first time. It struck her that she had missed Adalin's viewing and her funeral because she was in jail. Tears flooded in her eyes, but she didn't allow them to come out.

Adrian parked the car on the small road and they all got out of the car. Nora got the flowers and they walked up to a heart-shaped stone with two teddy bears holding a banner that said Adalin Marie Stone in big letters. It had the date she was born and when she had died. Under that it said "Blame no one for your decisions". Ezzy dropped to her knees and touched the stone as if it were sacred and made out of gold. "I'm sorry Addy, for everything."

"It's a good thing you're sorry," Adrian said.

Ezzy quickly turned toward him and glared.

"It's your fault she's dead," he added.

"It's your fault she had that party and rebelled against both of you. Don't you dare blame me for something that was your total and complete fault!"

"My daughter was only like that because of you," Nora spat.

"Yeah, because I taught her how to be a skank like her mother... Read the inscription on the tomb and look into the meaning. It was her favorite quote from her favorite book. Neither of you would know," she said getting up and walking away. She got into the car and stayed there until they came back.

They went home and she quickly went to her room. She was going to get changed and go out, but what she found was one of the most hurtful things anyone had ever done to her. All of her things were packed in suitcases and her room was emptied out. She turned around and Adrian and Nora were standing there. "You're kicking me out?"

"You're going to live with your mother. She already knows and she's expecting you to be there," he said.

"You're going to send me with someone I don't even know?!"
