Hello everyone, Astaroth here.
It's sometimes said that when you're bored and wish something would happen, nothing will happen and you'll remain bored, and when you just want some peace and quiet, more events will happen than you could count on both hands.
It's probably got to do with the confirmation bias, but perhaps it could have a core of truth to it?
I blinked several times as I laid in my bed before slowly sitting up in place, the soft covers falling off my body.
I heard a soft noise from the right side of my bed.
"... Today, too, Lady Entropy?", I asked, a wry smile playing across my face as I turned to the right.
She averted her gaze, her long white hair obfuscating her eyes.
Could it be she's embarrassed?, such a thought shot through my head. I belatedly realised she'd hear this thought.
As I had predicted, her pointy ears wriggled in embarrassment.
The moment I thought to open my mouth and speak up, a knock came from the door.
"Are you awake, My Lord?", a voice sounded. I placed the voice as that of one of the Ghost Maids.
Rather than giving a verbal response, with a single gesture of my hand, both the door and the curtain on the front side of my four-poster bed opened.
The maid on the other side of the door looked between me and Lady Entropy and, after a few seconds of silence, spoke up: "My apologies, have I interrupted something?"
What a professional, I thought upon seeing the complete lack of emotion.
"No, I was just waking up", I denied. Lady Entropy silently shook her head.
After nodding, the Ghost Maid then cleared her throat and started speaking: "I apologise for violating your privacy in the Lord's Chamber, Lord Astaroth, but there is an Imp at the gates with two non-monster guests who would like to meet you. In addition, sir Smile has requested an audience."
Did you really need to clear your throat? You have no physical body, a thought shot through my head, but I responded in a normal manner: "Whichever I tend to first, I'll need to get dressed first."
She respectfully bowed and turned to leave, but halfway through the turn, turned back to me. "In that case...", she began, but she broke off halfway through her sentence.
"Speak your thoughts", I commanded in a somewhat friendly tone.
"It is simply that, as My Lord is evolving, we have also thought to improve our service..."
"'We' here refers to all the maids of the castle?"
"Not just the maids, but also the other servants."
"Ah, I see. I'd thought the cooking for the banquet was more luxurious than normal. So that's it."
"Yes. And as such, I thought that... well... dressing yourself might be below such a powerful being as yourself."
"... You wish to dress me?", I asked, while simultaneously activating the skill [Mind Reading] I borrowed from a demon.
"With all due respect, I do not believe you should have to do it yourself", she said, and though I could read she was attempting to curry favour, I could also read she had no intention to do anything other than dress me.
Of course, I also read a massive amount of respect towards both me and Lady Entropy.
"Do not think you can curry my favour with a single moment of obsequious behaviour", I said in a remarkedly neutral tone.
