Hello everyone, Astaroth here.
Does it ever happen to you that you find yourself coming to the same place multiple times in one day, each time with a different purpose?
I suppose such a thing is inevitable when you live in a combat-based community and have one single area marked as training grounds.
After laying Davna on the ground, I walked back to the tree in a few steps, walking straight through the barrier, and kicked it in a similar way to how I had done earlier.
Once again, Lizei crawled out of the tree. She did not look any more awake than she had looked earlier.
"Mashter! Already, dun?", she asked, tilting her head.
"Indeed", I nodded, "so I'd like you to drop the barrier and heal Davna's wounds now."
"A'ight. Can do~? Can do~!"
With a motion of her arms, the wooden pillars retreated back into the ground and the barrier disappeared.
"Creating and dropping a barrier is fine and all", I said, "but you should open your eyes when you heal people, at least."
"Ah~?", she cried curiously, but she complied regardless.
For a few seconds, her green-brown eyes stared at my face, curiosity in her gaze. She seemed particularly focused on Gnome's symbol on my cheek.
Then, without much of a warning, she spontaneously hugged me.
Without a word, somewhat speechless, I looked at her for a few seconds.
After those few seconds were over, I decided to speak up: "... What do you think you're doing, Lizei?"
"Ahm~... Hugging mashter~?"
She reminded me of a certain Kobold to an extent.
I shook my head and peeled Lizei off me before pointing at Davna with my free hand. "Her wounds", I said curtly as I placed Lizei on the ground once more.
As I tried to walk away, I stopped mid-step for the simple reason that Charlotte approached me.
"Your magic's gotten quite strong, hasn't it, Milord?", she asked, seeming as proud as if it had been her own magic.
"How is the sword?", I asked her, ignoring the compliment thinly veiled as a question. "I do hope you'll be able to draw out its full potential. It'd be a mighty waste otherwise, after all..."
"I believe I'll be able to meet your expectations, Milord", she said, a sly smile on her lips. As she held the sword in her right hand, she made a small cut in her wrist with her knife using her left hand and controlled the blood flowing out said cut.
Rather than form it into a complete sword, like she used to, however, she let her blood run through the canals in Lifedrinker's blade, prompting some manner of deep red symbols to glow along the side.
"Splendid", I said as I watched.
"I must say", Charlotte said, "I was quite surprised to find my experiment would have effects this tangible. I'd intended to simply make it feel a little more natural, so I admit I was quite surprised when the effect activated."
"Hmph... To discover it by accident... Should I say as expected? Regardless, make sure to use it well."
"Of course, Milord."
I could hear her walking away as I turned my back on her and continued towards the halls.
