Hello everyone, Astaroth here.
It's not uncommon for superiors and subordinates to have rivalries, even in modern companies.
Of course, if you apply this to a fantasy world and the demon king's army, the nuance changes significantly.
After dropping off the children at the training grounds--an action which was only interrupted once, by the sound of a far-off explosion I decided to pay no mind to--and leaving them in the head instructor's care, I had the sudden, somewhat startling realisation that, although it was almost noon already, I hadn't eaten a thing.
My immediate course of action was to telepathically command the chef to make me a meal--although I felt fine for the time being, I had no plans to experiment with my new form's tolerance of hunger. Following that, I sent telepathic lunch invitations to Davna, Navillus and, while I was at it, Evyna too--I figured the other Demon Generals were preoccupied--and turned to Lady Entropy.
"Will you be joining us, too, Lady Entropy?", I asked, trying my hardest to conceal my inner expectations and keep my voice flat.
The skill [Poker Face] certainly helped in this.
"... You mean, lunch? With, all of you?"
I nodded without a word.
"... Nuh-uh. It's, impossible, for me. That night, after I came, out, to meet you... after you, went to sleep, I laid awake, all night."
"... You don't sleep, Lady Entropy."
"... You, know, what I mean...", she said, turning her head away in dissatisfaction--of course, as always, her expression remained flat.
"... I see. Don't force yourself", I gave in, placing my hand on her head and stroking her a bit more gentle than I normally would.
Again, she stealthily pushed her head into my hand.
After finishing my lunch, I addressed a certain dragon.
"Davna", I said, approaching her. She lifted her blood-covered maw from her almost dog-bowl-like bowl which had once been filled with meat and faced me.
Once again, I realised how much bigger than me she was. My train of thought was interrupted as she tilted her head to the side curiously.
"I trust your training has been going well?", I asked, eyeing her sharp teeth and equally sharp claws as I could not prevent half a smile from playing across my mouth.
"Yes, Master!", she said telepathically, her tone noticeably excited, almost as if she was anticipating or looking forward to something.
She probably was.
"Then", I said, my smile growing into a grin, "shall we test your training?"
The look of happiness on her face was indescribable--perhaps in part since it was the face of a lizard.
The moment I entered the training grounds for the second time that day, this time with Davna's human form in tow, all attention gathered to me.
The training grounds themselves were unremarkable--the ground was made of some kind of hard, cold, beige-like dirt, and training dummies of all shapes and sizes were scattered around. Of interest was the rather large tree nearby--of course, it wasn't useless.
"Then, first", I said, addressing Davna as I gestured towards the various training dummies, "demonstrate."
In a rather quick tempo, the area around the training dummies was vacated.
