SHIP NAMES: Scorose, Rosius, Scorpius/Rose, SM/RW, SM/RGW, S.S. Romeo and Juliet, S.S. Poisonous Rose

THOUGHTS: When I was first collecting the data for this ship book four years ago, I didn't know that Scorose has been a ship since 2007, only two days after the release of book seven. I guess it makes sense, because Scorose is a way for fans to get their fill of Dramione through Draco's and Hermione's children while still sticking to canon. They're set up as potential rivals by Ron in the Epilogue when he tells Rose to beat Scorpius at every exam and jokes that her grandfather Arthur would never forgive her for marrying a pure-blood, and anyone who's been in fandom for any length of time knows that intellectual rivalries and family feuds are powerful and potent lures to shippers around the globe.

I wavered on how to rank this ship, because I'm a bit conflicted. I see a lot of potential in how Scorose could bring together two families with a lot of bad blood. I also like that JKR said that Draco raised Scorpius to reject the idea of pure-blood supremacy, so there's no deep-seated bigotry getting in the way of this ship like there is with Dramione. Scorpius and Rose could have a good ol' fashioned intellectual rivalry with the added understanding that their fathers dislike each other and that Rose's mother, Scorpius's father, and Uncle Harry all have a very complicated past, but they don't have to let that get in the way of any connection they have. (This is, of course, COMPLETELY ignoring The-Play-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named and just going off the original seven books.) I've never read any Scorose, so I don't know what the common tropes are for this ship, but I definitely can see its potential.

However, there are also things getting in the way of me actually shipping them. For one, I've come to accept that I don't like the Epilogue and prefer to imagine my own canon-divergent endings for the characters, so while I love Romione, and I'm okay with Hinny and Drastoria if I can't have Drarry, I'm not really invested in any of the main characters' kids. For another, if I absolutely HAD to accept canon (I don't count The-Play-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named as canon, no matter what JKR claims on Twitter), I prefer Scorpius and Albus. Their relationship is one of the only good things to come out of the disaster that is The-Play-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named, and while, again, I do NOT count that as canon, Albus and Scorpius really do have a wonderfully built-up friendship there (ignoring the forced ship hints towards Scorose, which is a SHAME, because like I said, Scorose has potential, but not the way it was executed in that damn play. Y'all Scorose shippers were simultaneously fed and punched in the face by canon, yikes.) Plus, I love the idea of Albus being sorted into Slytherin with Scorpius (or the two of them being sorted into Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff together, for variety), and I also like the idea of Albus feeling like the black sheep of the family and struggling to live up to his father's celebrity or his older brother James's popularity, even though I stand by the opinion that Harry wouldn't be the shite father he is to Albus in The-Play-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named (seriously, Harry would NEVER).

Anyway, Scorose has elements of potential and could be compelling if done right, but with how it's executed in The-Play-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named, plus my preferences for either ignoring the Epilogue or going with Scorbus if I have to accept the Epilogue (or, heaven forbid, that dreadful play), I don't end up shipping it.

RATING: 4/10: This ship's pros (its potential) and cons (its execution, plus my own general disinterest in the Epilogue), leave me meh.
