I follow Daniel back down the basement stairs, relieved that only Corbyn saw what just happened. I'm so in shock from the kiss I feel like i'm floating with no control of my body. It should feel like my prayers have finally been answered in kissing Daniel, but instead I feel unsure of myself. I stop at the bottom of the stairs and close my eyes trying to process what I've done in kissing Daniel back.
"Are you okay?" Jonah's face looks concerned as he says, "That took awhile. Did
something happen?"
"I'm okay, really," I say trying not to act at all suspicious. Daniel seems unphased by the kiss we just shared and a scary thought crosses my mind. Am I a bad kisser? As if Daniel knew exactly what I was thinking he looks at me and says, "No, don't worry." I feel relieved that he understands and I join the new game of pool.

Around midnight Jonah asks if I want to stay the night. I check with my mom, and except the invitation since it's so late. Zach jokes that I can stay in his bed with him, and I appreciate his attempt to lighten my mood. For the rest of the night I couldn't stop hoping Corbyn wouldn't say anything to the other guys. Especially Jonah. I realized why the kiss with Daniel didn't completely rock my world
like it would have a few days ago. Its because the lips pressed against mine where Daniels, and not Jonah's. I felt a connection that I've never felt with anyone before when I was hanging out with Jonah. The feeling in my stomach scares me, so when Jonah suggests I sleep in Jack and Daniels room in their spare bed, i'm relieved. I couldn't sleep in the same room with Jonah or i'd explode into a thousand pieces of longing and regret. I follow Jonah into Daniel and Jacks room and watch as he shows me where the bathroom is. He disappears for a minute and comes back with a sweatshirt and a pair of his sweatpants for me to wear.
"Thank you," I say as a blush creeps on my face.
"Goodnight Em," he says with a small smile, heading back to his own room. I sit on the bed across the room from where Daniel and Jack are starting to fall asleep, with no chance of sleeping anytime soon.
~
I lay awake for an hour and a half before I finally get up and tiptoe down the stairs to get some water. When I reach the bottom of the stairs I see Jonah on one of the deck chairs reading Harry Potter. I contemplate whether to sneak back up the stairs or slip outside, and loose to my newfound attraction to Jonah Marais. I open the doors careful not
to scare him and I tiptoe to where Jonah is laying on his chair.
"Hi," I say taking a seat next to him. Jonah's startled expression makes me laugh.
"Hey," he says with a small smile. You couldn't sleep either huh?" He carefully places a bookmark on his current page and looks into my eyes.
"Nope. I've been laying awake since midnight."
"Same here. I come out here sometimes to escape when I can't fall asleep. It's so quiet and peaceful.
"It really is peaceful," I say scanning the stars above our heads. "The sky looks so beautiful tonight," I say wistfully.
"So do you," Jonah says with a small smile. I can see his cheeks turn a light shade of pink which makes my heart flutter a little faster.
"Not really, but thank you," I reply ducking my head. I guess it's my turn to blush. Jonah tilts his head slightly and says, "Em you are one of the most beautiful girls i've ever seen. Don't ever forget that." My smile could light up the whole night sky.
"You really are very kind and genuine," I say with a small laugh. "All those instagram posts were true."
"Instagram posts?!" Jonah laughs. "I can't look at all those fan accounts anymore! Last time I looked at one I saw a video Jack took of me asleep on the tour bus. My mouth was open and everything," he says with a boyish grin.
"Oh no! You're one of those people who can fall asleep anywhere! That's a friendship dealbreaker." When Jonah doesn't reply I take a peek at his hurt face and say, "Jonah I was totally joking!" A smile spreads across his face and he bursts out laughing.
"Got you!" Relief floods over him and he replies, "Hey, that wasn't very nice! I thought you were actually mad at me." We share another laugh until both of us physically can't laugh anymore. I check my phone and see that's it's nearly 3 in the morning. Where did the time go? As I raise out of my chair to head back to bed, my foot gets caught on the leg of the chair and I fall face first on Jonah's lap.
"Woah," Jonah says surprised. "Are you okay?"
"I'm totally fine," I say leaping off of him. "I'm going to go back to bed, I'll see you tomorrow." I don't turn around to see Jonah's face, but I can feel his smile as I walk back to Jack and Daniels room.
