After we finished the movie, Jack suggests we go into the basement and play pool. It's getting pretty late, but I agree to play a few games with the boys before I leave.
"Em i'm going to head home," Harper says. "Will you be okay here?"
"Yes mom I'll be fine," I reply with a smug smile.
"Very funny," she says. "Zach make sure someone drives Emma home at a responsible hour, okay?" Zach nods and winks at Harper as she exists the basement and leaves for the night.
"Jack and Daniel you can play against me and Zach," Corbyn says to the group. They all shift towards the table at the other end of the basement, but Jonah and I stay on the couch.
"I guess it's just you and me then," he says with a flirty grin.
"I guess so. We're not cool enough for the rest of them!"
"I think we're too cool to play with them," Jonah says. I smile to myself. It's so charming that he's so normal and genuine, when he's a professional singer touring the world.
"So, you're from Colorado," he says impressed.
"How can you breath there? It's so high up. Like I could barely breath when I was performing there."
"It takes practice and extreme concentration," I say wiggling my eyebrows to make him laugh.
"I could listen to you talk all day long," Jonah says looking into my eyes, suddenly serious.
"Thanks... Uh I'm going to go grab some water from upstairs. I'll be back." I don't turn back around to look at his reaction, I just keep walking forward trying to not completely freak out. Jonah's naturally flirtatious personality is unlike any boys I'm used to. I've never even had a real boyfriend! Much less have I been near teen celebrities in a boy band. When I reach the kitchen I grab a bottled water from the fridge and take a seat on one of the kitchen stools. I hear footsteps and turn to see Daniel coming up the stairs.
"Hey, are you okay Emma?" Daniels face looks concerned as he studies my face, waiting for a response.
"Totally," I say a little to quickly and unsurely.
"Okay. Well if you need to talk about whatever's got you up here all alone let me know," he says. Daniel walks over to the fridge and grabs a water too, coming to sit next to me.
"Thank you. That really means a lot." He smiles at me and says, "are you sad to be leaving LA soon?" I stop and process what I'm about to tell him.
"I was actually thinking about asking my parents if I could stay here with Harper for the rest of the summer. Until college in the fall." Daniels face lights up as he replies, "That's awesome! If you ever need a place to stay, you are always welcome in our house."
I am momentarily breathless. One of my all time favorite celebrity crushes Daniel Seavey just offered to let me stay at his house.
"Ttthanks," I say still a bit breathless.
"So... do you have a boyfriend back in Colorado?" I'm very taken off guard by this question so I respond without even thinking about what i'm saying. "No. I've never even kissed anyone. Except for this kid in the second grade, but like that counts." As soon as it came out of my mouth instant regret floods over me. I cant believe I just told this gorgeous boy about my sad romantic life. I peek up at Daniels face to see his expression and instead of laughing like I assumed he would, he has a cute smile on his face.
"I think that's really sweet Emma." I smile back at him, slightly less embarrassed.
"To be honest I've really just wanted to get it over with, but all the guys I know back home are either taken or annoying as heck." Daniel laughs and says, "I can relate, except all the girls I know either scream when they see me, or just like me for my success." It takes me by surprise how easy Daniel is to talk to. Online he seems so intimidating, but his beautiful and pure heart shines through when you truly talk to him.
"That must be really hard for you," I say sympathetically. I'm about to ask him about their previous tour, when suddenly Daniel has his lips against mine. We break apart seconds later, and I gasp.
"See? Your first kiss wasn't as bad as you expected it to be was it?" No words come out of my gaping mouth, so I just nod. With my mind racing, I contemplate what I should do next. That's when I see Corbyn lurking in the basement doorway. "Hey there guys. I was going to invite you all back down for an epic pool tournament, but it seems you guys are having a little tournament of your own." He winks and disappears back down the stairs.
I've never been more relieved to see Corbyns face in my entire life.
