That night, Zach decides to order pizza. Daniel knocks on my door and tells me it's time to eat, so I follow him into the kitchen. Daniel takes a seat as a grab a water from the fridge. I turn around and see that the only empty seat is the one next to Jonah. I swallow nervously, and take my seati, sliding my chair closer to Daniel on my other side.
Daniel seems to catch on, so he moves his hand onto mine, and gives me a quick kiss on the cheek.
I nonchalantly glance at Jonah, to see him staring blankly at his plate.
Did he see us?
Zach hands me the pizza box and I take a slice of cheese, my favorite.
"I was thinking," Corbyn says after swallowing his food, "that we should all go to the movies tomorrow. They're playing the new Insidious!"
"We should definitely go," Zach adds. The others nod except Jonah.
"I'm not sure guys," he says. "You know I don't like horror movies."
"It won't be that bad," Jack says. "Come on bro, you have to come."
"Okay," Jonah agrees.
"What about you Em?" Daniel says looking at me.
"I'm down," I say excitedly.

The next morning we gather in Jacks car to head to the movie theater.
"I'm so ready!" Corbyn yells hopping out of the car like a little kid.
I laugh and say, "When aren't you ready Corbyn." He laughs and says, "That's so true."
We enter the theater and walk to the back row- Jack insists that the view is better- and we take our seats. I sit next to Daniel towards the end of our group, leaving one seat empty. I glance up to see who still needs a seat and I make eye contact with Jonah.
I try to act normal as the movie starts, even though i'm sandwiched between my fake boyfriend and the guy I wish I was really with. Daniel slides his hand onto the arm rest between us, taking my hand in his. Out of the corner of my eye I check to see if Jonah has noticed, but his face is trained on the screen. The movie starts to get scarier, with jump scares left and right. Every few minutes I glance at Jonah to make sure he's okay.
About half way through, a man jumps out on the screen, terrifying the audience. Suddenly, Jonah grabs onto my arm and hugs me closer to him. He nestles his head into my arm and closes his eyes. I freeze. I'm so in shock from his touch, that I can't move my eyes from the screen. Jonah doesn't move until a few minutes later when he excuses himself from the theater. When he's gone, Daniel smiles at me and whispers, "That was adorable."
I blush and reply, "I'm going to make sure he's okay. Be right back."
I make my way out of the theater, to where Jonah is seated on a bench with his head in his hands. I approach him and sit down.
I place my hand gently on his back and say, "Jonah, are you okay?" His head pops up in surprise and he replies, "I'm fine."
"Okay..." I say hesitantly. "Well if you're alright, I'm gonna go."
I step of the bench and walk only a few steps when I hear, "Wait."
I turn around slowly and say, "What?" In an annoyed tone.
"Thank you Emma. I was scared and you helped me, and I really appreciate that."
"You're welcome," I say with a slight smile.
"Now, do you want to come finish the movie?"
"I'm going to wait out here," Jonah says sheepishly. "I'm really not into scary movies like the others."
"Okay," I say turning around. "I'll see you after the movie."
I don't turn around to see if Jonahs watching me leave, but I can feel it in my heart that he is.

                                        ~
Later that night Daniel, Jack, and I are sitting on the deck playing a game of Monopoly.
"Why did we play this again?" Daniel asks, obviously bored.
"Hey bro, you wanted to," Jack says pointing his finger at Daniel.
He shakes his head and says, "Next time remind me that I really hate Monopoly."
"Hey," Jonah says coming up behind us. I turn around and see that there is a beautiful girl standing behind him.
"This is Madelyn," he says motioning to the girl. She smiles, and flips her long brown hair over her shoulder.
"Hey," Daniel and Jack say with small- obviously fake- smiles.
"Jonah let's go upstairs," Madelyn says from behind him.
"Okay baby," Jonah says turning towards her.
"See you guys later," he says walking back into the house. I frown down at the table. Was bringing her out here really necessary? What is he trying to prove?
"I'm sorry Emma," Daniel says squeezing my shoulder.
"It's totally cool," I lie. "It's not like we were ever together."
"It's the principal though," Jack says shaking his head at Jonah.
"It's fine guys. Really. Lets finish the game."
Daniel and Jack agree, but the mood of the day has definitely changed.
