I was in the living room, pacing back and forth. We came back to our house, because we didn't want to risk the Alpha coming back with Farkle in such bad condition.
Lucas, Zay, and Josh were upstairs doing everything they could to help him survive the transformation. Riley was upstairs with Farkle.
Lucas poked his head downstairs.
"You can come see him, Maya," he said grimly.
I ran up the stairs, shoving past Lucas and bursting into the guest bedroom, which was now a makeshift werewolf hospital.
The guest bed had fluffy linen sheets from my bed, and the bajillions of fluffy pillows from Riley's bed. Farkle was laying on top of the blankets. He had dark shadows under his eyes and his chest was bare, his shirt draped over the foot of the bed. I could already see the muscles popping out of his chest and arms. He was pale and sweaty, and he looked like he was in a lot of pain.
I ran over to him.
"Farkle!" I cried, tears streaming down my face.
His eyes fluttered open and found me. His mouth cracked into a half-smile.
"Hey, Peaches," he said weakly.
I laughed through my tears.
"Only Riley's allowed to call me that, but I'm going to let it slide right now," I said, choking up.
He closed his eyes again.
"I'll live," he said.
I looked to Zay and Josh, who were sitting in chairs against the wall, and at Lucas, who was standing in the doorway.
"No, no, Maya. They don't know for a fact that I'm going to live. But I know. I can't die yet. I haven't ruled the world yet," he said.
"You can rule our world, Farkle," I said, my voice breaking.
"I guess that'll have to be good for now," he said quietly.
"We have one small problem," Josh said, stepping forward.
"What is it?" My head snapped up.
"He needs a major blood transfer. I'm not a doctor, but I know enough to do one. Our problem is, he has A positive blood. None of us have A positive," Josh explained, "He'll die from blood loss if we don't find some."
"That's great," I said, jumping up, "I have A positive."
Josh immediately peeked up. He sat me down in a chair next to Farkle. Zay pulled a needle and a plastic bag out of the bag Lucas was holding.
Lucas held my hand.
"Look away," he advised me. I listened. I looked away from my arm and at Lucas's face. His green eyes sparkled with concern and stress. He attempted to smile at me. I felt the needle jab into the vein in the crook of my arm. I whimpered.
"Talk to me," Lucas said quickly, "Ask me a question."
I chewed on my lip.
"Why did you break the cologne bottle?" I asked.
"To hide your scent. That's why they didn't know you were there. There was no point in hiding you if they could smell you," he explained.
I nodded.
"One more question?" I asked.
"As many as you want," he reassured me.
"Is this my fault?" I whispered, so quietly that if Lucas hadn't had great hearing, he probably wouldn't have heard me.
"Of course not, Maya," he said gently.
He leaned his forehead against mine, his hot skin a shock to my clammy skin. He stared me straight in the eyes.
"I hate needles," I mumbled.
He chuckled.
"All done," Josh said. I looked up, surprised. I hadn't even noticed them pulling the needle out. I looked up, then looked away quickly. Zay had a big bag full of crimson red blood in his hand. My blood.
"You might want to leave now," Lucas said gently, steering me through the door, "Farkle needs to sleep. He might be good, now that he has this blood."
He offered me a tentative smile. I waited until we were past the door frame. I grabbed his face and pulled it down to my level, pressing my lips against his. His lips were warm and soft, and I pressed them to mine for a few seconds then was necessary, then I let him go.
"Do you realize," Lucas said, smiling hugely, "That was our first kiss."
I smiled, and shoved him back towards the door.
"Go save my friend." I said.
