Treehouse

Lucas was right, he had healed completely in only a few hours. He was up and walking and being annoying and being Lucas again, and I was so, so happy that nothing worse had happened. We hung out around the house and watched the Harry Potter movies for the rest of the day, and I fell asleep with Lucas (again) on the couch.

The next morning passed just like the last. Sausage, eggs, and toast, each with a ridiculous and unique combination of jelly.

"Aren't couples supposed to have an engagement party when they... you know... get engaged?" I asked.

Riley dropped her fork, "I totally forgot!" she cried, "I was so caught up in planning that we never really got to celebrate the engagement!"

"Normally some of the actual wedding guests come to the party, but we can't do that," Farkle said, "My parents are at a chemistry convention for the next week, and they can only stay away from work for the wedding. Maya's parents can't afford a hotel room for longer than a few days, but Maya's Mom won't let us pay for the room or come stay here. And Riley's Mom can't stay away from work."

I shrugged, "We can do something special, just the six of us," I said.

Riley nodded, "Farkle, are you okay with that?" she asked, looking up at him. I forget how considerate they are of each other all the time, and I smile.

"Yeah, that's fine with me. What do you want to do?" Farkle said, leaning back in his chair.

Josh snapped his fingers, "Alcohol and dessert in the treehouse," Josh said.

"What?" Riley and I said in unison.

Zay laughed, "The Treehouse is, you know, a massive tree house out in the woods. We strung it with a crap-ton of Christmas lights, and it has a bar, a TV, a sofa, a fireplace, a loft, etc, etc. The trick is, it's waaaaay up in the trees. So you could stand directly below it and not see it, even with all the Christmas lights on. It's freaking awesome," he explained. It did sound awesome, to be honest.

"Sounds great!" Riley said, clapping her hands.

"Cool. We'll stock up the bar and get a bunch of desserts, you guys won't have to lift a finger," Zay said.

"Thanks, guys. For everything," Riley said. I pinched her, because I was ninety-nine percent sure she was going to start crying again, and she laughed.

This was going to be the best engagement party ever.
