After that, the wedding went perfect. I danced with Lucas, then I danced with Farkle, and Riley, then Lucas some more. I caught the bouquet squarely, which was surprising, since I never catch anything. We cut the cake, then Riley and Farkle shoved it into each others' mouths. We all danced to an epic playlist composed by Riley and I, and the bridal party got their gifts at the end.
Zay and Lucas, the ring bearer and the best man, both got silver cuff links. Ava, the flower girl, got a really pretty pearl bracelet. As the maid of honor, I got a beautiful sapphire droplet necklace.
Finally, Riley and Farkle left in their car to go on their three week honeymoon to Bora Bora, last calls happened, and the guests left. The last to go was Topanga, my Mom, and Shawn. They congratulated us on our planning, and then they left. It was nice to see everybody, especially since they live so far away.
Lucas and I went upstairs. I helped Lucas untie his tie, and he helped me pull all of the painful bobby pins out of my hair. I took off my makeup, and I zipped the dress back up in its garment bag. I changed into a pair of leggings and a soft white t-shirt.
I walked back into Lucas's room, where he had already changed into sweatpants and a t-shirt. He got up as I walked in and came to me, wrapping his arms around me. He smelled good, familiar, and I buried my head in his chest.
"Glad it's over?" he asked.
I shrugged, "It was fun while it lasted, but yeah, I'm glad it's over," I said.
We went to the bed and laid down, with his arms still around me.
"Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice. From what I've tasted of desire, I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate to say that for destruction ice is also great, and would suffice," I chanted quietly.
Lucas smiled, "I love that one."
"Me, too, now that I have it memorized," I replied.
"I love you, Maya," he said.
"I love you, too," and then he was kissing me, harder than he's ever kissed me before. Harder than the night after the bachelorette party. His lips were warm, and they moved with mine perfectly, gently, then harder.
He moved down my jaw, my chin, my neck. I exhaled violently as he worked his way down my neck. Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain. It grew, it burned. I screamed, and Lucas jerked back. He looked down at my neck, at the bleeding bite.
His confusion turned to fear, then to shock as he realized what he had done.
"Maya, your neck..." he cried.
He turned and ran to the door, "ZAY! JOSH!" he bellowed.
I didn't even have to try to be immortal with him. Didn't have to convince him. Nothing. Just one little slip on his part, and it was done. It couldn't be reversed.
I was going to be a werewolf.
