Before we knew it, the wedding was here. It was like it was passively waiting in front of us, and then it just slapped us across our faces like Hi, I'm here!
Zay, Josh, Lucas, and Farkle got part of the house. Me, Riley, and Ava got the other part. Farkle and Riley had to stay on their separate sides of the house, while Josh took pictures and I helped everyone get ready. I mean everyone. I was helping Riley and Farkle, the best man, Lucas, the flower girl, Ava, and Zay, the ring bearer, get ready.
At six o'clock, on the dot, I woke up. I woke Riley up, since Farkle was already on the other side of the house. She was frazzled, and she got into the shower.
"Maya!" she called.
"What?" I said, opening the bathroom door.
"Can you hand me my clarifying shampoo?" she said, "It's on the counter, next to the sink."
"Yeah," I replied. I grabbed the shampoo off the counter and passed it around the shower curtain. I felt her grab it out of my hand.
"Thanks," she said.
"No problem. Do you need conditioner?" I asked.
"No. I've got that," she said.
I nodded and slipped out of the bathroom. I made a super quick cheese and sausage omelet, Riley's favorite, with lots of pepper. Everything had to be perfect this morning. I made the omelet and stuck it in the microwave for it to stay warm. Just in time, I went back upstairs. Riley was wrapped in a towel. I helped her out of the shower and helped her slip on a super-soft light blue terrycloth robe. After I dried the floor, we went downstairs.
I plunked the omelet down on her plate and poured her a cup of orange juice.
"I could've done all this by myself, you know," she mumbled.
"You don't need to be any more stressed out than you already are," I answered immediately.
She nodded thoughtfully, taking a bite of her omelet.
"You're probably right. And this omelet is really good," she said.
"Thanks," I nudged the glass of orange juice towards her, "Drink. You're going to need it."
She nodded and gulped down the orange juice.
"How did you sleep?" I asked.
She shrugged, "Fine. Had some good dreams. Had some nightmares. They were pretty much equal," she said.
"What were your nightmares?" I asked, "Anything horrible?"
She laughed, "No. In the first one, Farkle left me at the altar because my fingernails were too small and I smelled like a Laundromat," I snorted, "In the second one, you were maniacally laughing while throwing Pop Tart wrappers at me and screaming Minkus. Minkus. Minkooose."
She snorted with laughter. I smiled, "Terrifying nightmares."
She smiled. I cleared her plate for her and took her hand.
"Ready to get ready?" I asked.
She nodded.
"Let's go."
