After I did my planning for the day, I went into the library. Farkle had been holed up there all day working on a 'secret project,' that I wanted to know about. Riley was taking a nap.
I pushed open the door and walked in. Farkle was sitting at one of the study tables, with his phone in his hand, a notepad on his knee, and two laptops open in front of him. He immediately slammed both of them shut.
"Oh, it's just you," he said, opening the laptop again.
"Thanks for being so excited to see me," I said sarcastically.
He smiled, "Sorry. Riley can't see this," he said.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Promise you won't tell her?" he said.
"Promise," I assured him.
We hooked pinkies and he turned his computer screen to me. He was looking at pictures of an island with crystal-clear water and formations of bungalows suspended above the water.
"Our honeymoon," he said, 'I wanted to surprise her by taking her somewhere amazing."
"Awwwww," I said, "Farkle, that's so sweet! She's going to be so happy."
I dropped down into a chair next to him. On the other screen, he was searching for flights and hotels.
"Where are you taking her?" I asked.
"Bora Bora," he answered.
"I failed geography," I said quickly.
"It's an island in the French Polynesia," he explained, "Known to be the stereotypical dream honeymoon spot. Clear water. Private bungalows on the water. Snorkeling. Swimming. It would be a dream come true for Riley."
"Yeah," I agreed, "It would be."
"So far, I've booked us a bungalow, a jet ski snorkeling tour, going to see leopard rays, dolphin watching, whale watching, and a submarine tour," he said.
"Then why are you still working so hard in here? Take a break. How long is the trip?" I said.
"Twelve days," he answered promptly.
"You know, I'm like, one hundred percent sure Riley would be perfectly okay with spending hours upon hours swimming with you, or something simple and easy like that," I said, "Riley just wants to spend time with you. She isn't worried about seeing how many activities she can do in how short of a time."
I got up and closed the laptops.
"Come on, she's going to wake up soon. You should eat something. You skipped lunch," I said, pulling him out of the library.
"Thanks, Maya," he said.
"No problem," I replied, "That's what I'm here for."
