The Planning Room was busy all the time, and it sort of looked like an office. We spent a lot of time in there, looking through caterers and florists and making phone calls. All of the desks were swamped with papers and brochures and sticky notes, except for Farkle's desk, which was immaculately clean and organized.
It was around lunch time, and Zay brought a big platter of sandwiches into the planning room and set them down on his desk.
"Lunch break," he called.
We all migrated over to his desk to get sandwiches.
"Who should we include on the guest list?" Lucas asked.
Riley dashed over to her desk, pulled a sticky note off her computer, and came back.
"All of us, obviously, my parents, Farkle's parents, Maya's parents, Lucas's grand-pappy Joe," she read off the list, "That's all I could think of."
"That sounds like everyone," I said.
Riley smiled, "Fantastic! I'll put it on a final list and we can start on invitations soon!"
I took another peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
"Has it occurred to anyone else that none of us have ever planned a wedding before, and yet we're planning the while thing together? Shouldn't we hire, like, a wedding planner or something?" I asked.
"We'll figure it out. First time for everything, and all that," Josh said.
"Bridal party," Riley read off of another piece of paper, "Best man: Lucas, Maid of Honor: Maya, "Flower girl: Ava Morganstern, one of the kids my Mom babysat on weekends, Ring bearer: Zay." We all burst out laughing.
Riley looked troubled.
"What's wrong, Riles?" I whispered to her, "You're making your upset face."
"Who's going to walk me down the aisle?" she asked.
I was forcibly reminded of my suspicions about Riley's father, but I shoved them back down. Now was not the time to tell her that.
"Shawn would be happy to," I said.
Riley looked happier, "Do you think he would do it?"
I snorted, "Nothing would make him happier than to walk you down the aisle, Riley," I assured her.
After that, she was back to her happy self. Josh produced a pack of Oreos from his desk, and after we ate them we went back to planning. Riley's excitement was contagious.
We decided on a totally Riley-themed wedding. By Riley-themed, I mean flower themed. And, since it was flowers, we chose to have it in April.
We worked all day.
Around nine o'clock, after we had eaten pizza at our desks, we headed downstairs and closed the planning room for the night.
In the den, we turned on Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Zay and Josh were watching attentively, but I nestled into the crook of Lucas's arm and fell asleep.
I guess we weren't sharing a room tonight.
Just a couch.
