Graywind leapt over a log, racing towards the meeting place.
She was thinking constantly about the moment when she had to tell Nev the bad news.

Graywind approached the tree she was meeting Nev at. It was beside one of the oldest and biggest trees in the forest.
She sat down, waiting for her mate to arrive. She heard the sound of his collar jingle as he approached.
Her heart leaped with joy of seeing him again.
"Nev, you came!"
"Of course I came. Do all wild cats run this much every day?" He questioned, lying down to rest.
"We do a lot more than that." She replied. She touched her nose to his. "I was invited to join the tribe cats in the mountains." She trailed off and looked at Nev, her eyes clouding. "That means I'll have to leave the forest and you."
Nev looked at her, shocked. "But you can't!"
Graywind took a deep breath. "The kits cannot come with me, the journey would be too long for them and they wouldn't make it."
Nev's head shot up. "Where will they go? You can't abandon them!"
"They'll have to live with you and your housefolk." She replied. "Remember you said how nice they were to strays and how they took you in as a kit."
Nev got up and sat closer to her, rubbing his face into her fur.
"It will be okay." He mumbled, his fur brushing hers. "My housefolk will welcome two new kits. They can come live with me."
Graywind pulled her head away. "Are you sure they won't harm them?"
"Of course they won't." He replied softy, placing his tail on her shoulder. "You can bring them to me tomorrow and I'll bring them to my housefolk. There're old so they won't mind having two more cats. It will be more company for them."
She nuzzled him one last time before turning away. She had a new life to live on the mountains, and soon she would be there.
