It had been four days since the battle with the city cat's. When Drizzlestar told Blackstorm that they hadn't gotten Midnightkit back, she had been devastated.
Drizzlestar was sitting on the Hightree, watching over the camp. Scorchpelt was talking with Bloodfire and Bearfur. Blackstorm was organizing patrols, grief still showing in her eyes. Blackstorm had been deputy even though she was in the nursery. But now they didn't have that to worry about.
Drizzlestar looked at the camp entrance as Oaklight and Jaggedclaw walked out. She narrowed her eyes at Jaggedclaw. Her expression was unrecognizable, almost as if she was planning something. Drizzlestar shook her head and jumped down from the Hightree, heading to her den.

Jaggedclaw walked towards the river near the cave, Oaklight at her side. She unsheathed her claws, waiting for the moment to get her revenge. Her corrupted mind only thought of one thing: why Oaklight would betray her like he did.
Jaggedclaw turned to Oaklight and spoke, keeping her voice steady. "Why would you choose her and not me? You always chose her for everything."
"You would have made a great leader, only ambition clouded your mind." Oaklight replied coolly.
"So I wasn't good enough for you?" Jaggedclaw growled, stopping at the river.
"Jaggedclaw, that wasn't the case." Oaklight sat down, his ears twitching to tell her he had enough.
Jaggedclaw sat down beside him. She looked at the water and spoke again. "How did you know my father?"
"Nev and I used to be friends many seasons ago, way before he met your mother. He was a kind cat, always sharing and he would never tell a lie." Oaklight sighed. "But that all changed after he met Graywind. He would disappear for hours then come back, lying to me about where he was. Then one day I decided I had enough, so I left. Many moons passed until I saw him again, that's when I took in you and your sister."
Jaggedclaw dug her claws into the earth. "Why would he leave us like that?"
"He changed. Every cat does." Oaklight said.
Jaggedclaw got to her paws, looking at Oaklight. She grinned, though there was pain in her voice as she spoke. "I'm sorry, but there's something I have to do."

Drizzlestar woke up with a gasp. Sitting up, she tried to put together her dream. It had been Oaklight... in StarClan. But how would that make any sense? Unless...
"Jaggedclaw." Drizzlestar growled under her breath, unsheathing her claws. But her sister couldn't have possibly done it, right? Jaggedclaw wouldn't have killed Oaklight.
Drizzlestar's mind blurred as she raced towards the river. The river was where Oaklight had been. The moon's light made it possible for Drizzlestar to see in the darkness.
What Drizzlestar saw next was unbelievable. Jaggedclaw, standing over Oaklight's dead body. Drizzlestar had to dig her claws into the earth to keep herself from falling. Jaggedclaw turned a little to glance at her.
"Jaggedclaw... how... how could you?" Drizzlestar choked on the words as they came out.
"It's simple. I deserve to be leader. Not some weakling like you." Jaggedclaw growled. "I had to get my revenge somehow, and killing this old foolish cat was perfect."
"You're a monster. You don't deserve to be in my clan, let alone any clan." Drizzlestar said fiercely. "You need to leave, and don't ever come back. You're lucky I'm not going to kill you right where you're standing."
  Jaggedclaw laughed. "You could try."
Drizzlestar lunged forward, knocking Jaggedclaw to the side by surprise. Jaggedclaw kicked out with her back legs, hitting Drizzlestar's cheek. Drizzlestar growled with rage, pushing her sister down. Jaggedclaw struggled beneath her but Drizzlestar dug her claws into her pelt.
"Leave." Drizzlestar hissed. Jaggedclaw stopped struggling. She was now glaring into her eyes.
Drizzlestar got off of her, backing away.
Jaggedclaw stood up, a growl rising in her throat. "Goodbye sister. Have fun being leader while you can, for this isn't the last you will see of me."
Without waiting for a reply, Jaggedclaw raced away, leaving Drizzlestar alone, her eyes clouded with grief.
