Drizzlestar led her clan to the gathering, leaving Blackstorm and her new litter of kits back at camp. She had chosen Leapfrost to be FireClan's deputy until Blackstorm went back to warrior duties. Drizzlestar thought that by seeing the kits, it would get her mind off of her dream, but it only made things worse. She had a strange feeling about Blackstorm's eldest kit, Tigerkit. The gray tabby tom with yellow eyes reminded Drizzlestar too much of the cat she saw in her dream.
She shook her head. No time to think of that now. She sat down beside the other leaders and looked at the cats around her.
"I shall begin." Amberstar said, stepping forward. "ShadowClan is doing well. We have two new apprentice's, Calicopaw and Heavypaw!"
Drizzlestar cheered the cat's names with the others. She remembered how exciting it had been when she first became an apprentice. The other leaders shared their news and it was Drizzlestar's turn.
Drizzlestar stepped forward, clearing her throat. "FireClan is doing great. Blackstorm has had a new litter of kits and they are as healthy as can be."
Drizzlestar stepped back again, meaning she was done sharing. The cat's broke off, talking to one another. Drizzlestar jumped down and went to find Mossfur. She smiled as she found the spotted she-cat, bounding over to her.
Mossfur smiled as she saw her friend. "Hello! How's Blackstorm? What are the kit's names?"
Drizzlestar purred. "The kits are great. Two she-cat's and two toms. Tigerkit, Flamekit, Shadowkit, and Starkit."
"That's great! I wish I could see them." Mossfur mewed.
"You will one day." Drizzlestar promised with a smile. "Anyways, who should I chose to participate in the Pin Battle."
"Hmmm... Redpaw?" Mossfur suggested.
Drizzlestar nodded. "Good choice. He's a natural fighter. It's good that Thunderpaw became a warrior."
"But now we have Purplepaw and Silverpaw." Mossfur said with a smile. "They're just as good as he is."
"Let's see who will win." Drizzlestar mewed before racing over to Redpaw. "You will be participating in the Pin Battle, representing FireClan."
The brown tabby apprentice looked at his leader with wide eyes. "T-Thank you Drizzlestar. It's an honor!"
Drizzlestar smiled. "Good luck."Drizzlestar sat down next to Mossfur and Leapfrost, waiting for the Pin Battle to begin.
"First is Purplepaw of RiverClan against Calicopaw of ShadowClan." Blizzardstar announced, beckoning the two cats to step forward.
Purplepaw began to circle the spotted tom. She quickly dodged a front paw swipe attack and hit her head against his side, sending Calicopaw flying. Luckily, he landed on his paws and prepared for the next attack. Purplepaw stared at his ears then lashed out, surprising the ShadowClan apprentice by hitting his paws. He collapsed to the ground as the RiverClan apprentice pinned him down.
"Purplepaw has one the first round!" Blizzardstar yowled as the clans cheered her name.
"Redpaw shall go next!" Drizzlestar yowled.
The apprentice stepped forward, obviously distracted by everyone cheering his name. Purplepaw didn't hesitate to leap on to Redpaw and pin him down, curling her tail in triumph. Redpaw looked away, embarrassed. Drizzlestar lashed her tail in frustration, but took a deep breath.
It's not his fault. He was just distracted by all of the attention. Drizzlestar thought. I will have to speak to his mentor about making him more aware of his surroundings.
"Next is Birchpaw of WindClan against Purplepaw of RiverClan!" Deadstar said loudly.
Birchpaw stood no chance against Purplepaw. She quickly beat him, getting her into the next round. Redpaw was up next. He almost had her pinned until the last moment, when his battle move back fired and he was the one pinned.
"Purplepaw of RiverClan will go against Branchpaw of ThunderClan in the last round." Squirrelstar said.
Branchpaw straight away lunged at Purplepaw but missed. Drizzlestar narrowed her eyes as the ThunderClan apprentice twisted around and shoved Purplepaw forward. Drizzlestar immediately realized that he missed on purpose.
Purplepaw tumbled to the ground, caught by surprise. Branchpaw quickly pinned her down, yowling in triumph as the clans cheered her name.
"Branchpaw won the Pin Battle!" Squirrelstar shouted with excitement.
"Looks like neither of our clans won." Mossfur said with a smile.
"I guess not." Drizzlestar smiled back.
Mossfur pricked her ears as Blizzardstar said RiverClan was leaving. "Got to go. I'll see you later Drizzlestar!"
Drizzlestar watched Mossfur bolt away, still smiling. She turned to her clan and decided it was time for them to head home as well.
