Oaklight, Blackpaw, Jaggedpaw, and Drizzlepaw were on the dawn patrol. It has been a moon since the other cats joined the clan.
Oaklight stopped at the river, the same river they found Blackpaw in.
"I'm very proud of all of you, you've been working very hard." Oaklight praised. Drizzlepaw smiled with delight.
"Thanks!" All three of the apprentices replied at once. Oaklight smiled brightly at them, his gaze showing only pride.
"Can we go to the cave?! Please! We haven't been there yet! Last time, someone interrupted." Jaggedpaw said, looking at Blackpaw teasingly.
"Sorry for almost drowning." Blackpaw retorted, grinning.
Oaklight opened his mouth to reply but instead he lifted his head up and pricked his ears. Drizzlepaw could hear it too, a yowl.
"Great, another interruption." Jaggedpaw growled.
"Let's go check it out." Oaklight meowed, leading them toward the noise. Drizzlepaw stayed at pace with Oaklight, keeping her ears pricked.
"It smells like fox." Jaggedpaw wrinkled her nose in disgust. When they approached the direction of the yowl, Drizzlepaw saw two cats fighting three foxes. She looked at two other cats in horror. They were dead.
Oaklight made the first move, he leapt onto the fox's back, clawing the fox's eyes. He jumped back down and the fox ran away.
Drizzlepaw led Jaggedpaw and Blackpaw to the fox closest to a brown tabby tom, about the same age as them.
Jaggedpaw looked at the small tom. "Are you just going to stand there or are you going to help?!"
The tom didn't reply, he was clearly in shock.
Drizzlepaw jumped on the fox's back and bit the back of its neck. The fox growled and shook Drizzlepaw off. She fell onto the ground, the wind knocked out of her. The fox quickly pinned her down. Drizzlepaw stared at the fox in fear.
"Drizzlepaw!" Blackpaw yowled, her voice muffled by the fox's tail. Jaggedpaw was busy helping Oaklight and the other tom fight a fox.
Suddenly, the tabby tom lunged at the fox's head and bit its muzzle. The fox let go of Drizzlepaw and tried to snap at the small tom. Drizzlepaw unsheathed her claws and raked them across the foxes side.
The fox let out a yelp and raced into the forest. The small cat jumped off of the fox before it ran away.
Drizzlepaw turned to the brown tabby. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah. You?" He asked. Drizzlepaw nodded and they raced over to the last fox. Finally, the attack was over. The two
toms padded over to them. The older tom seemed to have gotten half of his tail bitten off by one of the foxes.
The older tom spoke first. "Thank you. We would have died if you didn't come to save us."
"You're welcome." Oaklight narrowed his eyes. "What are your names?"
"I'm Leap and this is my father, Spencer." The smaller tom replied.
Oaklight stepped forward. "I'm Oaklight. And these are my apprentice's Blackpaw, Jaggedpaw, and Drizzlepaw. We are looking for recruits for our new clan. We are giving you a one time offer, so I recommend you take it. Would you two like to join FireClan?"
Spencer shifted his paws, looking at the two dead cats. He finally looked back at Oaklight and nodded. "We'd be honored to join you."
