"The only scent I could pick up was rouges." Leapfrost said.
Drizzlestar had asked her most experienced warriors to meet in her den. Blackstorm's kit, Midnightkit, had gone missing. The only evidence they found was a hole in the nursery's wall, rouge scent all over it.
"It has to be the city cats." Scorchpelt mewed.
Bloodfire narrowed his eyes. "Then we have to go. We have to get Midnightkit back!"
"It could be dangerous. There's more cats there than all the cats in the clan." Drizzlestar pointed out.
"What if we don't have to fight them." Jaywing suggested. "We could just ask for the kit back."
Jaggedclaw snorted, almost a laugh. "And you really think that's going to work? Why do you think they took the kit in the first place? I say we just let them have that scrap of fur."
Bloodfire snapped his gaze to Jaggedclaw. "Just let them have her? No! We have to get her back, or die trying!"
"We could get WindClan to help." Drizzlestar quickly said.
Scorhpelt looked at her like she was crazy. "And why do you think they would help us?"
"It's worth asking." Leapfrost said. "We can ask for some of their warriors to aid us. And if we do need to fight, it would be good to have extra cats on our side."
The cats around her nodded, and Drizzlestar gave Leapfrost a thankful nod.
Drizzlestar got to her paws, looking at the warriors. "We leave now."Drizzlestar led her patrol towards WindClan's camp, Leapfrost at her side. The breeze ruffled her fur and she shivered, not used to it being so cold.
As they approached the camp, two cats who were guarding it, raced to them.
"Why are you here?" A orange tom asked.
"I'm here to speak to your deputy." Drizzlestar said.
"Redstrike doesn't need to be talked to by FireClan." A black and white she-cat hissed. "And whatever you have to say, you can say it to Deadstar as well."
"I'm sure whatever Drizzlestar has to say, it's for Redstrike's ears only." The orange tom said to his clanmate.
The lithe she-cat sighed. "Fine." She turned back to the FireClan cat's. "Only the leader may enter."
Drizzlestar nodded her head in thanks and followed the orange tom into the camp. She was surprised how these cats could sleep without trees over their heads. But otherwise, things seemed pretty normal. Kits were playing and warriors were talking and sharing tongues.
Redstrike walked up to them, nodding his head in greeting. "Orangepelt, has the FireClan leader come to speak to me?"
The orange tom nodded. "Yes. I'll leave you to it."
As Orangepelt turned away, Drizzlestar looked at Redstrike.
"Well, what's the problem?" Redstrike asked.
Drizzlestar looked around before replying, her voice low. "It's Midnightkit. She's missing."
Redstrike's eyes widened with worry. "What happened?"
"The city cat's took her and we need WindClan's help to get her back." Drizzlestar said.
Redstrike nodded. "I'll see what I can do."
With that, he raced away into the leaders den.Drizzlestar bolted towards the city, her patrol and some WindClan cat's thundering behind her. Lucky for them, Deadstar had agreed to allow some of his warriors to go.
As they entered the city, the surroundings around Drizzlestar sent chills through her. The buildings reminded her too much of her father and twolegs, even though there hadn't been any twolegs in the city for a very long time.
Drizzlestar slowed down, and so did the rest of the patrol.
"How can we find them?" Doeheart asked.
"You mean us?" A cat with an ungroomed pelt said, jumping down from a box. Soon, more and more cats spilled into the alley way.
"Why are you here?" A she-cat asked, her voice scratchy.
Redstrike immediately answered. "We are here because you stole one of FireClan's kits, and we want her back."
"Why would you ever think we would steal?" Another city cat said sarcastically.
"Give her back now, or we will make you." Bloodfire growled.
"Oh no, I'm so scared." Laughed another cat. "But the fight would be so unfair. There's more of us than there is of you."
"Then we'll fight as hard as ever to get that kit back." Redstrike said, his voice strong.
Bloodfire glanced at the WindClan deputy as the clan cat's got into battle stances. The city cat's immediately lunged at them, clawing and biting.
Drizzlestar attacked the she-cat from before, quickly pinning her down.
"Where's Midnightkit!" Drizzlestar demanded, her grip tight.
The she-cat grinned. "Well, her name is Midnight now. And we're not giving her back."
The she-cat quickly kicked Drizzlestar off, which caught her by surprise. She landed on her paws, fast enough to dodge the she-cat's next blow. The she-cat staggered and Drizzlestar quickly reared up, bringing her paw down hard onto the cat's head. The she-cat collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
Drizzlestar quickly scanned the battle, her eyes landing on Leapfrost, who was fighting two cats at once. She bolted over to her mate's side, flinging herself on top of one of the attackers. The gray cat struggled beneath her.
"Let me go!" The tom yowled.
Drizzlestar got off and the tom raced away. She turned back to Leapfrost and realized the other attacker ran off.
"There's too many of them." Leapfrost panted. "We're badly out numbered."
Drizzlestar's fur bristled. "We have to get Midnightkit back! I promised Blackstorm I would!"
"Blackstorm will understand." Leapfrost said.
"How could we have let these cats get into our camp in the first place?!" Drizzlestar hissed.
"We were unprepared, more than half of us weren't even in camp." Leapfrost mewed calmly. "But we need to retreat!"
Drizzlestar sighed. "Fine." She opened her mouth and let out a loud yowl. "Warriors, retreat!"
The WindClan and FireClan warriors broke away from the city cat's, starting towards the forest. Drizzlestar took the lead, growling as the city cat's yowled in triumph.
