He quietly sat, seemingly lost in thought. His skin was quite fair, and his hair was a disaster.

It was simply too short. But somehow, I knew, it was originally longer.

His eyes were a dark shade of brown, surrounded by a lush frame of long, perfect lashes.

He looked so good, he was beautiful.

No.

No, I thought to myself. You're still hurting over someone and yet here you are, marveling over some tasteful stranger.

"Cut the idiocy, and just ignore him." I chided myself.

"What do you think? Gorgeous, isn't he?" Lara probed, referring to the dark-skinned boy.

"I guess, but the one behind him looks better," I answered.

"Reminds me of Jacob." She whispered with mock disgust.

We then challenged each other to say hello and strike up a conversation with the strangers. She said hi, I did as well, but all we got were dull acknowledgements.

Bummer.

Thankfully, the shame ended when our adviser started the customary Dale Carnegie introductions.

We were to state our names, ages and what we expected of the year to come. I honestly don't recall the order in which we proceeded, for all I knew was that I dreaded my turn, and I greatly anticipated his.

He paced to the center of the small room, said his name rather hurriedly and returned to his seat.

"What was his name?" I immediately asked Lara.

"Justine, maybe?" She whispered back.

"No, no, I think it was with a "Z"."

"So, Jaztine?"

We continued arguing about his name, and we soon found out that I was right. His name was Jaztine. And the guy in front of him was Kobe.

Time dragged on, and I was, admittedly, still intrigued by the new guy, Jaztine, who was apparently also known as "Jaz".

Though Lara openly admitted that she was crushing on that other guy, Kobe, I wouldn't say that I liked Jaz.

I didn't know him, first of all, and although he looked good, I knew falling for him would just cause problems.

Lots of it.

Besides, I was still "hopelessly depressed about Jacob" as my friends like to put it. I just laughed at their wording, knowing that the public knowledge of what happened to us the year before would prevent any allegations about me liking the new guy from spreading.

Better to be heartbroken over your grade school sweetheart rather than to be known for hitting on the new guy, right?

The week passed, things were quiet, and as the days came, I started to know who he was.

A/N: Hiii, ugh, late update, I know.

Curse typhoons and power shortages. But here it is, nonetheless.

As you may have noticed, the story is paced rather hurriedly. Fret, you mustn't, for it is just in the opening chapters that the tale telling would be hurried.

These chapters are merely building up to the main story, the climax, if you must. All seem sidereal, but you would find them essential as you read on. Remember; all that's written and would be written here are factual, and they actual happened in real life.

Cheers! Thanks for reading, hope you don't tire of it.
