"Okay, the seating arrangement for the bus would be....." Ms. Fecundo started sleepily.
"Ma'am?" The class reminded her in unison.
"Seat-mates together!" Many groaned in disappointment, others exclaimed in glee.
Oh my God!
So, I'd be sitting with my seat mate....
And my seat mate is Jaz.
Oh gosh.
I'm pretty sure he'd transfer, but it could still happen, nonetheless. Besides, gadgets were allowed for the first time, so even if I had to sit with someone else, it wouldn't really be a problem.
We had the assembly in the quadrangle, and after quite a shuffle, we boarded the bus.
As expected, Jaz sat at very back along with Noche, Louie, Simon, and Kobe; who all agreed beforehand to sit together.
They were rowdy, no surprise there. But I was pretty close with all of them, and Lara, my seat mate, was too, so we had no problem with the noise, for we were part of it as well.
After the guys finished their food, within an hour, they were pestering those of us near them, "begging" for food.
We gave them some, and they were silenced for a while. I then started texting away.
Who was I texting? That is for me to know, and for you to find out.
Nah, just kidding, I was texting Gerald, who ostensibly was my "boyfriend" for about two weeks by then, who only Louise and Lara knew about.
I kinda liked him, but it was nothing compared to what I felt for Jaz. And admittedly, he may have been just some sort of distraction from Jaz.
I've never labeled us, and I've been completely frank about it. He's the one presuming that he's my so-called boyfriend, not I.
I sent out a group message, whining about how it seemed as if I could've had anyone, except the one I truly wanted, and I got a few replies, but the most significant was the one from him.
Jaz: Hi. What was that about?
Not much there, right?
Me: Oh, nothing. Just venting.
Jaz: Pretty obvious. You've been texting for quite a while.
Me: Yeah, frazzling some poor person's day 😂
Jaz: Is it true?
Me: Is what true?
Jaz: I've heard some stuff, about you having a boyfriend?
So, he's been listening to things about me, eh?
Me: Oh, that.
Jaz: So??
Tell or not tell?
Me: Well, no. Not a boyfriend. Just some guy.
Jaz: Okay.
The boys behind us were mostly asleep, and we had a long way to go, so I browsed my Facebook with Lara.
"Is that him?" Lara asked, pointing to a photo of Gerald.
"Yeah..." I said uncertainly.
"Woah. Not bad. He actually looks good." She nudged my side.
"Of course he looks good, what did you expect?" I feigned anger.
"Oh, quit it, Peralta, I know you have standards. But you've got to admit, Jaz is better."
I knew Jaz was better. I mean, damn, Jaz looked like a younger, Filipino, tanner version of Zayn Malik. While the other was the typical type of handsome.
(Speaking of Zayn Malik, isn't he just smoldering hot? And his voice! My feels, though! Any other Directioners out there?)

We arrived in our first and second stops, everyone excited and playful. People bought souvenirs, I, of course, bought food.
I enjoyed the trip, sticking with Lara, Louise, Yuson, and even Lei the whole time. Taking photos with them, and exchanging trivial quips, simply relishing being out of school for the day.
But on the third destination, Jaz kept silent.
He was trailing around Lei awhile back, but they weren't really doing anything.
He kept to himself now, and slept most of the way back to school, claiming to be tired.
It didn't seem like it though. I had a feeling he was woeful.
The guys must've noticed that I kept glancing back at Jaz, and they started teasing me about it.
At first, it was tolerable, just the usual kind of teasing, then they struck home when they mentioned just how dire my situation was, what with Lei and his current conquest as my "competition".
I kept silent, just as Jaz was, when I noticed he was distractedly tracing random patterns into the back of the chair.
I peered over, thinking it was only abstract doodling, when I was faced with a crudely drawn rendition of Lei's name.
Ugh.
What was it about her that he can't let go? It was annoying how despite there being other girls, he still ends up chasing after her, every damn time.
The only good thing that came of it was that she was seated half a dozen rows in front if ours, and it looked like she had no plans of transferring.
Speaking of which, they haven't been talking much lately.
I wonder what came up...

If I haven't already mentioned, me and Jaz texted all day, everyday now, and although it wasn't really a solid basis for any "development" in our friendship, whatsoever, it still made us closer.
I knew almost everything about him, and although he didn't know much about me, he knew things about me, almost as much as Annika does.
I was his top confidante, and it felt good knowing he trusted me, and that I was able to help him and cheer him up whenever he was upset.
Sure, I felt like some kind of "wingman" or whatever guys called it, and despite being hurt, I still liked helping him with "his girls", finding the thought of him loving someone heart achingly sweet.
Sometimes, I'd let my guard down, and try to imagine how it would feel like to be subjected to his attention and devotion.
How good it must have felt!
And yes, I was jealous of those who had the chance to have him, but I can't be angry about it.
They made him happy somehow, and I can't take that against them.
Stupid? Foolhardy? It may be so.
But I loved him.
And that, in itself, made sense to me.

You wanna argue against my personal opinions? Go ahead.
They're called opinions for a reason. 😊💕
