Zach

"Last period!" I cheer. "C'mon Dani."

"Coming, Zach!" Daniel's rummaging through his locker.

"Found my clothes! Now let's go." Daniel says.

A few minutes later, and I'm cracking up at a joke Dani just made as we walk into the locker room.

"Thank god we're alone. Being late does have its perks." I sigh.

"Coach might makes us run extra laps though." I nod agreeing, until I see something waver in the corner of my eye. It's Jack! He has control over light, so he can bend it to make him invisible.

"Nice try Avery." I say, and send tendrils of darkness to wrap around his bubble of light. Daniel just looks at me, shocked. Jack looks embarrassed but defiant. Seeing this as my chance, I turn around and take off my shirt, exaggerating the wince as I reach for my gym shirt.

"How's your rib?" Daniel asks, knowing what I'm doing.

"Dude it hurts....tell coach I can't run. I'm gonna go get some more ice. This bag's melted already." I clench my teeth and groan, because it hurts way too much.

"C'mon, let's go to the nurse." Daniel says, helping me up.

"Ok. Ready?" I ask.

"Yeah." We're in the nurse's room now, and explain to her what happened. She just gives us a sympathetic look and lets us go home early. On the way back to my house, Daniel and I high-five each other and laugh at Jack's reaction.

"Dude, skipping gym? Embarrassing Jack? What's next, cause I'm down!" Daniel says while laughing as we make our way back to my place.

"Dani....I have something kind of important to ask you...." I trail off.

"Shoot."

"Are you bi?" I blurt out. Daniel purses his lips and nods, and I hug him as tight as I can without my rib hurting.

"How'd you know?" Daniel asks.

"The way you look at Jonah, and the way you blush whenever he compliments you. But don't worry, I think he likes you too." I inform him. Daniel face lights up immediately.

"You think so, Zach?" He asks hopefully. I nod.

"100 percent, man. Plus, I ship it Donah." Daniel just rolls his eyes and playfully shoves me.

"Now what do we do about Avery?" Daniel asks.

"I don't know or care. Honestly, he's just a jerk." I sigh.

"Buddy, c'mon. You acted like you liked him when you came back from his house." I blush a bit and hope he doesn't notice.

"I don't like him, not in that way! And I admit I thought he was ok, but then the shitstorm happened and yeah." I say in a quick breath.

"Oh yeah? Why'd you blush?" Daniel smirks, knowing he's got me trapped.

"Fine....I guess I kinda do. I just wish he could always be the side of him that he showed me when we were working on our project." I sigh.

"Don't we all? If he was always Mr. NIce Guy, we'd have one less person to worry about." Daniel puts his arm on my shoulders as we approach my place. Then, I get an idea.

"What if we went to the ice cream place and hang there instead?" Daniel nods.

"Good idea, Zach. Let's go." Daniel grabs onto my arm, and then we're at the ice cream place.

"Don't you kids have school?" Asks the lady at the counter.

"Yeah, but I got beat up pretty bad so the nurse just told us to go home. Thought we could do with some ice cream." I say, looking up at the lady.

"Oh, you poor thing. Here, I think I have some ice around here somewhere." The lady rummages around the fridge before she comes back with a bag of ice.

"Here you go, sweetie. What can I get you?" The lady asks. Daniel places our order, then we go sit down.

"I really wish I was Shade...but I'm just a stupid Air. I can't do anything except send a nice little breeze Jack's way. Ugh." Daniel grumbles.

"Wait, you can control air, so if you pressurize the air under your feet, maybe you could....fly?" I say thoughtfully. Dani's face lights up as he literally drags me outside and concentrates for a bit. Nothing happens.

"Dude, are you sure you did some-" I start, but then Daniel cuts me off.

"Look down." Daniel smiles, showing his tooth gap. I gasp when I do. We're ten feet above the sidewalk.

"DANI YOU DID IT! YASSS!" I hug him.

"I feel like a proud mom." I say, as Daniel lowers us back down to ground level. "I bet Jonah's gonna fall for you even more now."

Daniel blushes and just stares at the ground while I chuckle, holding my ribs so it doesn't hurt too much. Suddenly, a finger taps my shoulder and as I turn around, I become blind.

"Herron, what are you doing here?" Oh. It's him.

"Dude, just go away. Please." I sigh, and try to maintain my balance

"Herron, I'm sorry." Jack says.

"Bullshit. If you're sorry, you wouldn't have done it in the first place. I trusted you Jack. And look at how well that turned out." I say softly. "Also explain to me why I'm blind."

"When you bend light, you make it so that light doesn't hit you, but when light doesn't hit you, you can't see either. Right now we're invisible." He says simply.

"Y'know DANIEL can still hear us, right? So he knows that I'M INVISIBLE BUT STILL HERE." I hope Daniel can hear me and send a super strong gust of wind to make the idiot fall down. If Jack notices, he doesn't care.

"Look, she made me do it, and I swear I'm not who you think I am." Jack's voice has a slight pleading tone in it, but I'm not giving in.

"You could've said no! It's one word. One effing word, Avery. But no, your rep matters more to you than a person. Says a lot about who you are to me." I cross my arms even though I know he can't see me.

"Fine, but I just wanna know why you didn't use your Skill." Jack asks. I laugh coldly.

"That's simple enough. I didn't use my Skill because I wanted to see if you would stop once you saw the pain I was in, I wanted to see if you wouldn't even punch me in the first place. And I was hoping that you would stop but-but you never did. I thought-I thought that maybe we could e-even be friends. But c-clearly I was wrong." A sob escapes from my throat as I sink to my knees, hugging myself, wincing everytime my rib cage expands because of my rib.

I hear Jack sigh, and suddenly I can see again. But Jack's nowhere to be found. Pounding footsteps come from behind me and I turn around, still wiping my tears. Daniel's face is hard, his jaw set.

"I swear, if he hurt you again -"

"Dani, no." I take a deep breath and tell him what just happened.

I'm back guys :)

Poor Zach. He doesn't deserve all the hate he's getting, y'know?

Anyway, I'm sorry if this book isn't that good...

Prepare for some tea in the next few chapters :DD
