Sunday
I huff in annoyance as I check my watch for the hundredth time. Of course, Jack's half an hour late.
I'm here, I'm here. Sorry, where are you? I hear Jack in my head just as I'm about to leave.
I'm by the main entrance where the huge flag is.
Wher- never mind, I see you.
Straining my neck, I look for Jack in the crowd of people.
"BOO!" Jack yells from behind me, causing me to accidentally knee him in the stomach.
"Wow, I feel so loved," Jack wheezes while holding his stomach in pain.
"Just be glad my knee didn't go a bit lower." I see him wince at the thought, trying to compose himself.
"Anyways, fireworks start at seven, so what do you wanna do in the meantime?"
"There's fireworks?" I gape at him.
"Yeah, unless there's rain or something. But that almost never happens, and it won't happen tonight. I saw a guy with atmokinesis on the way here, so I have control over the weather now." The grin Jack gives me is so big I can't help but grin back. "So what do you wanna do?" He asks again.
"Um......how about we go in first and see?"
2 hours later
"Not cool, Zach. Not cool." Jack holds his stomach while trying to glare at me. He's kneeling on the ground and catching his breath.
"How was I supposed to know you're not a rides kinda person?" I ask, sitting on the ground beside him.
"Why would you even choose that ride to go on in the first place?! How do you get a kick outta that?? You just sit there and spin.....and then you spin the other way......how did you not feel like throwing up?"
"I'm used to it. You should've seen yourself when we got off though. Seriously, you walked a few steps and face-planted. I really wish I got that on camera."
"Eff you." Jack groans, finally standing up.
"No thanks."
"That's not what I - whatever." I smirk a bit when I see Jack's red face. Oh how the tables have turned.
"C'mon it's almost seven and I wanna get cotton candy before they start!" I say, starting to walk towards the cotton candy table. Suddenly, I feel arms wrap around my waist and pick me up, throwing me on the owner's shoulders.
"JACK PUT ME DOWN!" The idiot just laughs and shakes his head. I squirm around for a few moments until I feel Jack's hands slipping inside my shirt. His fingers graze the skin on my lower back, just above my waistband, making me freeze for a moment.
"Stop moving, everyone's staring" he says. Immediately I notice the little scene we've caused and blush. Of course, the idiot was smirking as he continued carrying me towards the cotton candy stall.
"How are you so strong anyways?"
"Gravitokinesis." He replies simply before finally putting me down.
The guy at the stall looks at us weirdly before handing me a large bundle of cotton candy. I smile happily and hand him two dollars.
"Let's go." Jack takes my free hand and drags me away from the field area.
"Wait, where are we going? Aren't we supposed to sit on the field?"
"I know a better spot. Follow me." He leads me through the crowd and to a tall tree.
"Really Jack? I can't climb this monster."
"This isn't the monster you wanna climb." Jack says in a teasing tone.
"Huh?" Jack just shakes his head and suddenly, I feel myself lifting from the ground. Slowly, the wind pushes us upwards until we're both sitting on a tall branch.
I smile at the view. From here you could see families laughing and couples cuddling together. I glanced sideways at Jack, who immediately blushed at being caught staring.
I raise my eyebrows. "Stare any longer and I'll have to charge you."
"Can't help that you're stunning," he says without missing a beat.
"You too."
Suddenly, a loud boom startles both of us and we turn to look up, red streaks painting the sky.
Jack's POV
I don't even care about the fireworks.
Nothing compares to Zach.
The way his eyes light up when he's really happy, or amazed, or surprised, the way he runs his hand through his hair when he's nervous, or ~ crap ~ even the way he breathes is captivating.
I don't think he realizes, but he's got his head on my shoulder, head tilted upwards and lips parted a little bit. I can see the fireworks reflecting in his eyes, little bursts of light against his brown eyes.
Maybe that's what we are.
Bursts of light against a dark sky, lighting up everything and anything around us.
"Jack?" Zach says, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Hm?" I reply, turning to look at him.
"Why aren't you watching the fireworks?"
"They're don't hold my attention like you do." I cup his cheek, my thumb resting on his bottom lip.
"J-Jack?" HIs voice cracks a little and I hum softly, telling him to continue.
"I've never been in a relationship before, and I think you should know that 'cause I don't want you thinking I'm an idiot or something, and I guess that I've only ever wanted someone to love, but then I found out I was gay and people started hating me, so when everybody ditched me I thought that no one would ever - "
"Don't talk, okay? I'm here now, and you're not gonna get rid of me that easily. Now shut up and just watch the fireworks, you big doof." Zach gives me a weak grin, and the pain is so visible on his face I just can't.
So I lean in a little and our lips our a centimeter away from each other.
"Zach?"
"Y-yeah?"
"Shut up." I say.
Zach's POV
He closes the gap and when our lips meet, it's like a whole universe falling into place. I feel like I'm about to burst and everything fades away and it's just the two of us, his hand resting on my back and my arms looped around his neck, one hand gripping his hair. I can feel him smile through the kiss, and I can't help but smile too. We're like two puzzle pieces fitting together and when I pull away, he's grinning, his face flushed and happy, hair completely messed up in a cute way. I'm panting but I can't help but smile too because finally, finally, it feels like I'm whole again.
"I don't plan on letting you go."
"Neither do I." He grins, and we stay like that, my head resting on his shoulder and his arm wrapped around my waist while we watch the fireworks, different colors lighting up the sky.
Hiii......
I really, really hope you guys liked this chapter even though the kiss scene was.....
Well, it was.....
