Jack's POV

"Oh baby, I was so worried for you!" A girl bursts into my room, gushing and simpering at my situation and it's disgusting. Good thing I'm turned away from her and lying down, so I just close my eyes and fake sleep. She huffs once she sees I'm sleeping, turns around, and slams the door to my room shut. I open my eyes a bit and look at the reflection in the window and breathe a sigh of relief. I can not deal with that right now. Not when the brown-haired boy might exist.

"Jack, open your eyes. She's gone." Daniel says, amusement in his voice.

"Ugh, why did I even date her?" I groan and bury my head on my hands.

"You wanna know something? I don't know either. Also, doctor says you're good to go. So you're gonna be leaving the hospital today, and flying tomorrow."

"Where's - "

"Corbyn already left. You were sleeping when he came to say goodbye." My mouth forms a silent 'o' in realization.

"When do I leave this place?"

"Right now. C'mon, bro!"

3rd person POV

Zach watched as a truck pulled up to the house next to theirs, followed by a black SUV. For some reason, the new family intrigued him. He wasn't used to getting neighbors, as no one had moved into the house on Zach's left for quite a while. The house on Zach's right was currently occupied by Jonah, and the two would frequently hang out. Zach stood at the window as he watched the car unload, a husband and wife exiting the car first while three teens got out from the backseat.

The last one that got out caught his eye: a boy, maybe around 18, with his hair dyed blonde.

Zach already knew who this guy was.

Christina's boyfriend.

Corbyn.

Zach ran out the door, his feet carrying him to Jonah's, as his finger repeatedly pushed the doorbell, hoping to see -

"Jonah!" He rushed in the house, his eyes a crazy, dark blue, bluer than any ocean.

"Woah, you didn't wear your contacts!"

"Whatever, it doesn't matter. Remember Christina's boyfriend?" Zach didn't even wait for Jonah to nod his head.

"Yeah, well he just moved in right next to me." Zach exclaimed, his eyes still dark blue.

"No way."

"Way." Just then, the doorbell rang.

"Jonah. I don't have my contacts." Zach said, urgency growing in his voice while his eyes turned maroon.

"Zach, just breathe," Jonah commanded. In a few seconds, Zach's eyes settled back to brown. "Okay, don't think about anything while he's talking. Look unfocused if you have to, okay?"

Zach nodded in response, already looking at his feet while Jonah opened the door.

"Hey, we just moved here. I'm Corbyn. Corbyn Besson." Zach continued looking at the ground while Jonah and Corbyn shook hands, and directed his gaze towards Jonah when he nudged the younger boy with his elbow.

"I'm Zach." Corbyn frowned at the emptiness in the boys' voice, and looked back up at Jonah, who just smiled apologetically.

After a minute or two of awkward silence, Zach got his phone out and checked the time.

"Oh, I have to go. Bye Jonah, bye Corbyn." Of course, he didn't really have to go. He just copied what the movies did. The unconvincing look Jonah sent him didn't go unnoticed by Corbyn, but Zach surprisingly turned around and said, "You can tell him 'bout the first thing. Just not the second." Jonah watched the younger's retreating back in disbelief, his jaw hanging wide open. Zach had never asked Jonah to tell anyone about his alexithymia.

"Um, what's up with him, and what's the second 'thing'?" Corbyn put air quotes around the word 'thing'.

"It's a long story," Jonah said, dragging his hand across his face. "You might as well come in."

Zach watched from the window in his room as the Corbyn entered Jonah's room, sitting in the beanbag chair while Jonah lay down on his bed. Zach looked at his reflection in the window, surprised to find his eyes a light, baby blue.

I'm a monster, he thought to himself. After all, what other kid had eyes that changed color? He sighed as he lay down on his bed, closed the curtains, and turned the lights off, looking at the glow-in-the-dark stars he had taped to his ceiling when he was a kid. When he was older, he had rearranged them to be the constellations Apus, Gemini, Hercules, and a bunch of others. He curled up on his side and looked out his window, too focused on the view outside to notice that his eyes had turned indigo.

Meanwhile, Corbyn was speechless.

"Wait, he can't feel anything?!" Jonah shook his head.

"He can feel the emotion, he just doesn't know what it is. So if he didn't know what sadness was, and he was crying, he'd probably think he had a broken tear duct or something."

"Oh. And why would he tell you to tell me about this?" Corbyn asked, curiosity growing.

"He trusts you." Corbyn nodded, thinking about Jonah's answer before firing another question.

"What's the second 'thing'?"

"I would tell you if I could, but it's not my place to tell." Corbyn nodded again, understanding where he came from.

"Anyways, tell about you. We don't get a lot of neighbors here for some reason." Jonah shrugged.

"Oh, I have an older brother called Jordan, and a younger sister called Ashley. Um....we moved here 'cause my friend's mom is gonna become director of this school super near this place. So yeah. They're arriving tomorrow, and are probably gonna come over." Before Jonah could even open his mouth to reply, the doorbell ringed numerous times, playing the first note of the chime over and over again.

"Oh. My. God. Zachary Dean Herron, I swear to -" Zach dragged Christina inside the house before Jonah could finish his sentence.

"Christina, Corbyn. Corbyn, Christina." Christina gave a wave and looked at Zach incredulously.

"Zach, I gotta talk to you." The boy just shrugged and followed Christina to the hallway outside Jonah's bedroom.

"He's the guy isn't he? The one you drew who was supposedly my 'boyfriend'?' She said. Zach just nodded in reply and smiled.

"Wait, why am I smiling? Why are my face muscles not obeying my brain?" Zach demanded, trying to wipe the smile off his face and failing. From Christina's view, it looked like his face was having a spasm, and it sent her into bursts of laughter.

"Zach, take off your contacts." She finally said after her laughter subsided He obliged, taking off the contacts that hid his eyes, the one thing that Christina loved the most about him.

"Yellow....." Christina smiled as she saw the luminescent yellow that almost seemed to glow. Suddenly, a figure burst out of the room and gasped.

"Guys, you gotta - Zach? W-why are your eyes...yellow?"
