(The entry is actually on the back of the prompt sheet and stapled to the notebook, fun fact. Basically we were to make a short story in which the first line is a line from a famous novel from a given list of examples. my choice was the Diary Of Anne Frank)
On Friday, 12th June, I woke up at six-o-clock and no wonder, it was my birthday. I got out of bed, expecting an amazing day ahead of me, and I quickly changed out of my pajamas to greet my family. In the kitchen, I found a small package and a letter. Eager and cautious, I opened the letter and read, "Happy birthday sweetie! Sorry, your father and I work today, but we might make it home for dinner! Hope you like your gift! Love, Mom." I read the note three times, hoping the words would change. They'd just leave me alone on my birthday? I glanced at the package and felt a little twinkle of hope. Maybe good will come! With new determination, I opened the present... to find an old watch. The watch ticked rhythmically but the time was off and I could tell it wouldn't be alive much longer. Not to mention the garage sale price tag. Thanks, mom. I spent the day watching t.v., with a happy amount of birthday wishes from friends to keep my spirit up. 8:00 PM hit and my parents still weren't home, so i took the liberty of cooking myself some birthday ramen noodles. 10:00 PM finally rolled around and my parents walked through the door. They cheerfully announced their greeting, and I angrily closed my door to go to bed. If they'd make me spend my birthday alone, that's how my day would end; without them.
(This is not a real life experience)
