~~~SARA'S POV~~~~
I had confided in her. She had told me everything. And now I leaned against the frosted glass of a New York phone booth absolutely speechless.
Cars honked and screeched in the streets. A soft pitter-patter of rain was beginning to fall. People walked by, ran by. People talking, people yelling, people humming their favourite song thinking no one else could hear it.
Inside my protective shell I breathed into the phone, slow and steady. I ran my fingers through my tangled hair and cast my eyes to the ground, wondering how I was supposed to react.
"He did all that to save me?" I asked.
On the other end she clicked her tongue.
"Hun, I think you're missing the point here, your boyfriend's gone."
"Boyfriend.. He was barely even a boyfriend, we were barely dating."
"Sara, he's not in Australia anymore. He's been abducted. And I don't know how to get him back."
I smiled, digging my hand into my pocket and running my fingers over a small, round object.
"I do."
"Put your hands up. You're under arrest." A strong voice boomed from outside the phone booth.
I dropped the phone, holding my hands in the air and turning to see a team of police officers looming behind me.
They opened the clear plastic door and pulled me out.
"What did I do? I don't understand." I spoke as hand cuffs were placed upon me.
"Mam, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say could be held against you in a court of law."
"I understand. I just want to know what I'm being arrested for." I said.
"Have a seat next to Nigel, he'll explain everything." A man said, leading me into the back seat of a cop car.
The door clicked shut and I was alone with a tall man in a black suit. He had an ear piece in with a cord that ran behind his ear. His hair was slicked back and styled.
"Hello miss Wilson." He spoke.
"What's going on? I haven't broken the law." I stated.
He cracked a smile, amused at me, then shook it off and went right back to that serious face of his.
"That woman you were talking to; she's a dangerous fugitive. We've been tracking her phone calls for the past few days, trying to pinpoint her exact location. But your conversation with her today has particularly peaked my interest. So tell me, Sara; were you really abducted by aliens?"
I stared into his crisp blue eyes. "Let me out of this car right now."
A smirk returned to his otherwise lifeless face. "I don't think so."
"I am not a criminal. You have no right to hold me here."
"Well, if that's how you feel." He muttered, opening his door. "Take her to the interrogation room." He instructed another officer before closing the door behind him, leaving me locked in the car.
My hands were bound behind my back, but even so, I strained and reached into my front pocket. This was probably the right time to click that little button. With a firm press it was done.
The front door opened and an officer stepped in. In silence he started the car and began driving. I stared out the barred window anticipating Althazar's arrival.
