~~~~~~~SARA'S POV~~~~~~~~
Nigh time. Stars all around. None of us had elected to leave the relative safety of Elizabeth's rental car. Our eyes stared up through the windshield, piercing the crystal sky while contemplating what might be out there.
I touched althazar's arm. Warm as ever.
I needed to talk to him. Before he left.
Elizabeth shut off the engine and pulled out the keys.
"Guess this is it." She said.
The headlights faded, darkness fell all around us.
I took a deep breath.
"Yeah, this is where it all changes."
"Braden will be happy to know you're alive." Elizabeth said, popping her door open and getting out.
I couldn't shake the feeling of guilt. Not because I had decided to stay behind tonight - that I could justify - but because Althazar was going to be getting himself abducted, and I was the reason.
My eyes followed him as he opened up his door and got out of the car.
It seemed suicidal.
"Althazar," I whispered as he shut the door.
He poked his head in through the window.
"Yes, lovely?"
"Are you sure you want to do this?" I asked quietly.
He leaned in closer, "If it'll make you happy darling, I'll do anything."
"I don't want anything to happen to you."
"I'll be okay." He stated. "I'm always okay."
In that moment, as his head hovered close to mine and his life hung in the balance, my heart fluttered. And I reached out and did something an impulse told me to.
I kissed him. Gently, softly on his warm orange lips.
I hadn't ever been sure if aliens did the whole kissing thing, but it sure seemed like he knew what he was doing.
In the next moments lights appeared in the skies.
A familiar voice told me to drive and I did, while watching in the rear view all the way as the orbs did circles in the skies, zeroing in on Althazar, and Elizabeth.
