"How  was school?" Bert asked as his daughter ducked into the dark red car. Athena was smiling, obviously happy over something. Bert didn't catch on, though. Nor did he really care. He didn't know why he asked. her day could have been shit and he wouldn't care.

"It was okay." She got buckled as he started driving. Bert just nodded, but stayed silent. Athena looked at him, raising her eyebrow. "Are you okay, dad?" She asked, noticing how... off he was acting.

Bert wasn't usually quiet. Usually he'd be asking Athena a ton of questions; like he was an interviewer and she was a huge celebrity, except he was her nosy dad and she was an awkward teenager who just wanted to live her life.

"Don't worry about it." Bert muttered, his gaze hard on the road. Athena sighed and slouched, biting her lip, her fingers fiddling with the hem of her skirt. Bert noticed this and slapped her hand away. "Stop that. It's not lady like."

Bert controlled her life; he wanted her to be the "perfect" girl, someone who didn't do anything wrong or got into any fights. Someone who wouldn't sneak out to get wasted and stoned, a girl who wouldn't get pregnant at the age of sixteen.

"Sorry, dad." Athena mumbled and looked out the window, her hands folded neatly in her lap. Her father raised his eyebrows.

"After an order, it's "sir", not "dad", understood?" He asked, looking over at his daughter. Athena sighed, bowing her head.

"Yes, sir." Athena sighed, looking over and noticing a small smirk on his lips. She didn't say anything, though. She just simply looked out the window, staying quiet. As soon as they pulled up to their home, Athena rushed inside. She set her stuff upstairs in her bedroom before kicking off her flats and walking back downstairs.

"Did you make any friends?" Bert asked at dinner. Athena stopped poking at her rice, looking up at him with her big doe eyes. She smiled a little, looking back into her dish.

"Yeah. Two, kinda three." She mumbled, spooning her food into her mouth. "Frank, Gerard, and Mikey." She explained and looked up at her father. He raised his eyebrows. Athena flinched at the look. "Mikey is the "kinda". He's quiet, hard to talk to." She added quietly as she finished eating.

"Guys? How about some girls? I don't want you hanging out with only guys." He shuttered at the thought. Athena frowned and stood, taking care of her dishes. She turned on the sink, starting to wash them.

"Dad, they're good kids." She mumbled. Frank seemed to be a good kid, and she knew Mikey was, but Gerard wasn't. Gerard was beaten and broken, and a pain in the ass. She would admit that he did seem like a pain, but she wanted to help him.

"Guys are never good, Athena." He stood and grabbed her shoulders, turning her to face him. "Understand?"

"So... you aren't good?" Athena smart mouthed. Bert's hand came up, and he slapped her.

A cry fell from the young girl's mouth as she brought her hand to the side of her face. She looked up at Bert, her eyes wide. She knew what she was getting herself into, she never got away with being a smart mouth. Bert grabbed her hair and tilted her head, glaring.

"Clean the kitchen, then go to bed, got it?" He spat. Athena nodded and shuttered, wrapping her arms around herself as she looked down.

"Yes, sir." She whispered, not looking into his eyes. Bert rolled his eyes and walked to his room, slamming the door shut.

Athena cleaned the kitchen. She washed the dishes and counters, then proceeded to mop the floors and clean the table. Her cheek stung as she stalked to her room, a bruise forming on her cheek. She closed her door and locked it, sighing shakily. She made her bed before sitting at her vanity, putting makeup over the bruise. She made sure that her eye makeup was still okay before going to her closet.

Athena yawned. She was exhausted, but she knew that if she cancelled, Gerard would never let it go. She sighed and pulled a pastel blue sweater out of her closet before grabbing a pair of white shorts. She changed and checked her phone, humming in satisfaction when she saw that she had an hour until Gerard would pick her up. She straightened her hair, looking at herself in the mirror.

Once her hair was done, she walked to an unopened box in her room, deciding that she would unpack more stuff while waiting. She opened the box, her breath getting caught in her throat when she saw an old photo album. She sat on her bed and held it in her lap. Slowly, she began flipping through the pictures. She took a deep breath, seeing pictures of her with her mother and father. Then her eyes landed on one.

She was a little kid, it was a picture of her with her father. They looked happy. Athena couldn't remember the last time her and her father were happy together. Bert was an alcoholic, and Athena's mother didn't help him in the slightest. She only fueled it, but never realized it. She freaked out when Bert told her that he was bringing Athena to New Jersey. She hated the idea, and didn't want her only daughter, her only child, being taken from her.

Athena's fingertips brushed the picture. Bert was holding her in his lap, the biggest smile on his lips. The picture made Athena smile. She loved it. It made her happy to see her father happy. It was amazing.

Athena jumped at the sound of her phone going off, signaling Gerard was on his way. She slipped on her white Converse, slipping  her phone into her back pocket. She grabbed the key to her room and walked out, locking it. Sneaking down the hallway, Athena peaked into her father's room, glad to see him asleep. She snuck down the stairs and outside, sitting on the front step as she waited for Gerard.
