"Athena, we need to fucking talk." That was the first thing Gerard had said when he approached his girlfriend at lunch. His voice was drenched in anger. He was definitely pissed off at something, someone.
"Oh." Athena blinked, slowly standing. "Okay?" She flinched as Gerard grabbed her arm, dragging her out of the cafeteria. He pulled her into an empty hallway, shoving her against a locker.
"Did you sleep with Frank?" He glared down at her. Every hair on Athena's body stood. What the hell was he talking about? "Did you sleep with Frank?!" He repeated harshly, aggression in his time. When Athena once again failed to respond, Gerard pulled her into an empty classroom. He slammed her trembling form against the chalkboard. She had never seen him this mad. It concerned her; they were happy.
"What are you talking about?" She asked harshly, squinting. She tried to pull away, but it was no use. He was much stronger. "When would I have the time to sleep with Frank?! You've practically lived with me since my dad left! You barely went home!" She shouted.
"And when I did, you could have!" He spat in her face. Athena pulled away from his grip, forcing herself away from him.
"I told you I loved you!" They shouted in unison, voices full of hurt. Gerard rose his hand to hit her, but stopped himself. Athena's teary eyes went wide.
"You... You were going to hit me." She whispered, her voice breaking. Gerard stopped his hand to his side, taking a deep breath.
"I can't do this. I-I'm breaking up with you." He sputtered out, taking his leave. Athena was frozen, breath caught in her throat.
Gerard walked back into the cafeteria, sitting next to Frank angrily. Ray looked at him, a confused look ok his face.
"Where's Athena?" He asked. Gerard sighed, rubbing his face.
"Room 102 crying. We... I broke up with her." He muttered, causing Ray to spit out his food. Frank's eyes widened.
"Shit." Ray stood, rushing out to find her. He ran through the halls and into room 102. Athena was sitting on table. Her face was in her hands as she shook, choking on her sobs. Ray walked over and pulled her to him, shushing her.
"You're okay, baby girl." He whispered. He wanted to calm her down, he needed to be the hero. Athena was able to calm down by the end of the lunch period, but didn't want to let go of Ray as she shook. Ray sighed and kissed her head.
⚡
"Could you give me a ride home?" Athena asked, leaning on the locker neck to Ray's. She wasn't sure what it was, but there was something about him that made her want to be around him. He seemed like he wouldn't hurt a fly, like he was the sweetest person.
Ray looked at her and smiled. He shoved his books and binders into his bag before grabbing his keys and phone off the top of his locker. He closed it, slinging his back over his shoulder.
"Of course." He nodded, leaning on his locker so he was facing her. Athena smiled. "Where do you live?"
This question always embarrassed her. Back in the United Kingdom, when people found out how rich she was, they would try and use her for her money.
"Do you know where the rich neighborhood is?" She mumbled softly. Ray nodded and took her hand.
"C'mon." He gently pulled her out, leading her to his car. They climbed in to his car, her giving him directions as he silently drove. When they got there, Ray didn't let her get out if the car immediately. Instead he reached across the center console and grabbed her blazer pulling her lips to his in a heated kiss.
When he finally released she quickly caught her breath.
"I've been wanting to do that for a while." Ray laughed nervously. Athena smiled shyly, said an awkward goodbye, and hopped out. She let a breath she didn't know she was holding as she got inside and went to her room.
The day had been too stressful. She flopped face down onto her bed, staying there for hours before she fell asleep. It would be the last night before her father would be back home. The last night she had to herself. That meant this was the last night that she had to figure herself out and to mentally prepare herself to get yelled at.
She knew it would happen. After she tried to commit suicide, she was almost sure that he wouldn't be happy. He was going to yell and scream, let her feel like shit and want to do it all again. It happened after her first attempt in the United Kingdom.
It had been years since it had happen, she was thirteen, and she still hadn't lived it down. Occasionally, Bert would tell her not to "accidentally" overdose on her prescription pills, and it pissed her off. She hated it, and that was obvious. So he kept doing it. He truly did enjoy annoying her.
Athena wasn't ready for him to be home. She wanted to see him, she just didn't want to deal with his bullshit. He would sit there and question her about Gerard, Floris, frank, and Ray, question her about school, and why she attempted suicide.
She also felt guilty over the whole Ray-Gerard situation. She didn't know what to do about that. She loved Gerard, she really did, and though she wasn't too close to ray, she felt something when he kissed her. She had no idea why he kissed her, there was no reason for it. But she liked it. He was a good kisser. She would never deny that. But he was Gerard's best friend, and she was still in love with Gerard. That's also something that she couldn't deny.
Gerard was an amazing person, and she never wanted to be without him.
Athena fell asleep with these thoughts in mind. It was all too much at once
