It had been a week since I had broke up with Harry. He stayed in the hallway for three days after that night.
Every time I would try to leave to go to work I would run into him. He would beg me to forgive him. Each time I saw him, he had the same tear stained face.
Gemma excused me from work since she was pretty pissed with Harry too. She yelled at him to leave every time she left the apartment to go somewhere.
Eventually she convinced him to go back to his apartment that he never used.
I hadn't been to school in so long that I didn't think I would even have a reason to go back, but I did anyway.
I showed up and felt like a new kid in every class.
The first class was just as slow as I remembered it being, but it seemed that I didn't miss too much. I went up to my professor and explained about the shooter being found and he wasn't fond about me skipping, but he excused it since most of the time I had been out was when I was in the hospital or still injured.
The other professors let me off the hook as well, but they were not the ones I was worried about.
Professor Collins, my literary English professor, was probably the most strict teacher I had. He always talked about how important our attendance was.
I walked into the class and saw my usual seat in the front of the class. However, I also saw a Harry sitting in his usual seat, which was right beside mine.
I sat in the back before Harry could see me. I really liked my front row seat, but I was doing everything that I could to avoid him.
In high school, I had always been the best student in every class. I didn't always have the best grades because of math, but I was still a good student.
I lost track of where that good student streak ended, but I'm almost positive that it was around the time that I met Harry.
Class finally ended and I had missed so much that I had no idea what professor Collins was talking about half of the time.
As everyone got up to leave, I stayed behind and waited until most everyone was gone until I approached the professor.
"Excuse me, professor Collins?" I asked softly as he turned around. "My name is Skyler Jefferson. Um I have been out a while and..."
"Yes, I know I've noticed." He said sternly.
"I want you to know that I wasn't just skipping to skip. I, well the shooting that happened a few weeks ago at the limestone, I was injured in it and I have just not been feeling great lately." I was basically lying I had come back to school once since the shooting, but after everything with Harry I just got distracted.
"According to your medical record it says that you should have come back a long while ago." He said glaring at me.
"I know, and I did, but then they caught the shooter and he happened to be someone close to me and I was honestly just scared to leave my apartment for a while, so I just..."
"So you just skipped your classes?" He was staring at me in a disapproving way, waiting for me to answer his question.
"I...I"
"She was going through a really hard time professor Collins." I heard a familiar voice say from behind me.
My heart sank. I was really trying to avoid him that day.
"Mr. Styles? Please do not try to defend Miss Jefferson, because she is not innocent." He said.
"Oh believe me I know sir, but I also know that she was in pain these past few weeks and she couldn't bring herself to come here."
The professor looked back at me then Harry as if he were considering something.
"Well, I guess I could give her some makeup work." Professor Collins finally said.
I smiled and shook my professor's hand.
"Thank you so much sir, I promise I will not let you down." I rambled.
As I walked out of the room I could feel Harry following me. I sped up, trying to get away before he could stop me to talk, but I failed.
"Skyler!" I heard him say from behind me. I stopped walking and scrunched my face up, turning around.
"What?" I asked through my teeth.
"Your shoe is untied." He said catching up with me.
I looked down and saw my pink converse untied.
"Oh" I said, slightly embarrassed and bent down to tie it.
"Please just hear me out Sky, I did it to protect you."
I stood up and rolled my eyes at him.
"Sky."
"And who was there to protect Raine?" I muttered and then turned away and walked off.
I was frustrated as I walked to work with my earbuds in my ears, the volume on max.
When I got to the Limestone there was a guy waiting at the counter and no one was helping him.
I quickly grabbed my apron and tied it. I ran behind the counter and looked at him.
"Hi sorry about the wait how can I help you?" I asked him out of breath.
"Oh, well I'm actually here to see about getting a job? I saw that you guys are hiring." He said pointing at the sign outside the window.
"Yeah sure, um let me go get my boss." I said walking into the back where Gemma usually was.
"Gem there's a guy out here who wants a job." I said.
"Okay be right out!" She yelled from the storage room.
I went back to the counter and saw the guy standing there waiting.
He looked around my age. He was average height with messy dirty blonde hair, and bright sea green eyes. He wasn't bad looking.
"She said she'll be right out." I told him with a smile that only I knew was fake.
"Thanks." He said with a smile. Then he held his hand out. "I'm Louis, Louis Tomlinson."
