"Who's house is this anyways?" I asked, glancing around at the magnificent house that surrounded me. Originally, I thought that this party was going to be held at Jaxon's and would be less formal but I suppose plans change.
"This is Hewitt's house, you haven't met him yet though." I nodded my head in understanding, Jaxon answering my unsaid question. "He's new to the school and the lacrosse team and when I told him about the party he said he wanted to have it here, kind of like a thank you for letting him on the team and what not."
Our bodies floated around the room, mixed with other couples and heavy breathing clouding the air. "Where's Thomas?" My realization of not seeing him so far finally coming to the front of my mind. Jaxon perked his head up and glanced around the large open floor, green eyes skimming the large crowd.
"Ah, I got him. Right there." I turned and followed his pointing finger to see our familiar dark haired friend with a forearm placed on the wall beside a pretty black haired girl whose red cheeks could be seen from all the way where we were. Laughter bubbled up between both Jaxon and I as we walked off of the dance floor, heading in Thomas's direction.
"I hope you're not tormenting that poor girl." I called out as we closed the distance, Thomas turning to look at me and running his hand through his hair, brushing the loose hairs that had fallen in his eye sight.
"Nope, the only tormenting I would be doing would be when we were alone later tonight." He turned a wink towards the girl whose face brightened to extreme shades of red. I wacked Thomas on the shoulder, rolling my eyes at his charming smile.
"I'm Quinn." My hand outstretched towards the girl and she snuck a peek at Thomas before returning eye contact and shaking hands with me. "Tara."
"Well Tara, Thomas is a good guy even if he acts like an idiot so feel free to put him in line whenever you want, you've officially been given the best friend approval."
Thomas scoffed and Jaxon covered his mouth, holding back laughter. "Excuse me but I do believe that you are the best friend's girlfriend and that Tara would need Jaxon's approval, not yours." Thomas crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes at me, Tara giggling lightly when I turned to Jaxon and he held his hands up in surrender.
"Hey don't look at me like that, best friend and best friend's girlfriend gets the same authority I think so Thomas, you're S.O.L. Sorry bud." Jaxon commented until Thomas turned his narrowed eyes towards his friend.
"Woah, Jaxon. What happened to bros before hoes?" I gasped, throwing a punch at Thomas as both Jaxon and Tara burst into stomach holding laughter. "Did you really just call me a hoe?"
Thomas began to chuckle as he pulled me into a hug, holding me tight even though I struggled to push against him. "No you're not a hoe, finally Jaxon found a good girl." I chuckled at that statement even when Jaxon interrupted with a grunt in displeasure at Thomas.
All of us gathered in a corner of what I've decided to call the ballroom. People were still slowly trickling inside the house and the rooms were slowly beginning to get more and more stuffy with sweat and alcohol. The house was turning into a miniature club and I was surprised that no cops had been called yet for a noise ordinance. Thomas and Jaxon were joking and chatting with each other, Thomas throwing small flirting comments towards Tara who was still red but I couldn't tell if it was from blushing or the heat of the building. It seemed like Thomas really actually liked this girl and the quick glances that he stole while she wasn't paying attention only confirmed my assumptions.
The calmness of the night lasts momentarily as I glanced across the ballroom, my eyes meeting a pair of grey ones. Kendall stared me down, keeping contact as if no one else was in the room with us. I felt like my heart was stuck in my throat, swallowing hard to pull it back down into my thundering chest. Kendall tilted his head, hinting for me to follow and I bobbed my head towards him, squeezing Jaxon's hand slightly before moving through the crowd to follow.
