“Hey, Cal,” I smiled, giving him a small hug.

We decided to go visit him.

“Hey,” he smiled, kissing my cheek.

I stepped aside so Michael could give him a hug.

“What, no kiss for me?” Michael joked.

Calum rolled his eyes and pulled the lanky boy closer to him, kissing his forehead.

“I’ll hold off on the kiss,” Ashton laughed, giving his mate a hug.

Calum laughed as we all sat down, “How are you guys?”

“Good,” Michael smiled, draping his arms over my shoulder.

“How are you feeling?” I asked him.

“Not as shitty as before but still pretty shitty.”

“Well at least you’re feeling better,” Ashton shrugged.

“And not worse,” Michael finished for him.

Calum nodded with a small smile, “True. So, you guys are just all ditching school?”

“Mikey is,” I said, “Ashton and I were told to stay home. He just left.”

“I’m punk,” Michael insisted.

“No you’re not.” We all said in unison, as if it had been planned.

He rolled his eyes at us all. “I am.”

I giggled and leaned back in my chair.

“Ugh, but I’m starving,” Calum moaned. “The food here sucks.”

“It is time for lunch,” Michael commented, glancing down at his phone.

“We can go pick something up,” I offered, standing up. “Mikey and I.”

“Where are you going?” Ashton asked.

“Calum, what do you want?”

“Maccas sounds good right now,” he smiled loopily, as if he was dreaming about the food in his head.

“What do you guys want from there?”

“Ah, I know their orders,” Michael smiled.

“True love when you know your mates Macca order,” Calum commented.

I rolled my eyes, “Okay, we’ll be back.”

I grabbed Michael’s hand and dragged him from the room, but even once we left, I didn’t let go. It felt nice to hold his hand.

He drove - illegally - to whatever Maccas was. I soon found out it was actually a McDonalds and 'Macca' was a term for it.

We ordered inside and waited by the counter for our rather large order inside the busy place. They were running slightly behind. Michael and I leaned against the counter, waiting. He stood behind me closely, resting his chin on the top of my head.

I liked being close to Michael like this.

An employee scooted our two bags of food towards us. Michael thanked him and grabbed both bags, handing one to me.

We walked out to the car silently.

"Thanks for buying," I told Michael, sliding into the car seat.

"You're welcome," he smiled, starting the car and backing out of the parking lot.

---

"We bring food!" Michael yelled as he entered the hospital room.

Calum reached his hands out, eager for something to settle his stomach.

Michael and I passed out the food and sat next to each other on the large window ledge next to the bed. Calum and Ashton were discussing something else, but Michael and I sat close together, our legs pressed against each other.

After we finished eating, Michael kept his hand loosely draped over my knee.

"We should get going," I whispered quietly in Michael's ear.

He nodded, "Mate, we're gonna get going."

Calum smiled, "No problem."

"I'm actually gonna stay a bit longer. You two can take my car. My mum is coming by later to see Calum and she wants me here."

"Promise we won't crash it," Michael swore.

We have them both a quick hug and left.

His arm draped over my shoulders, "We just going back to your place?"

I nodded.

We got in the car outside and drove off. Only five minutes away from my house, we got pulled over.

"Just play along," he whispered as the officer approached his window.

"License?"

Michael pulled out his learners permit.

"Sir, I need you t-"

"Look," Michael cut him off quickly. He pointed out me. "She got in a car crash the other day and she has her license," I don't, "but she's traumatised to drive and we were visiting our other friend Calum because he's in the hospital because he was in the car with her and he got messed up pretty bad. We were visiting and she has stitches in her side and forehead from the crash and the cut on her side started to hurt real bad so I'm just trying to get her home. We're only a few minutes away."

The officer looked down, then back up, "Fine. You were speeding, though. So just try and keep it down."

He gave us a quick smile and left.

"That was good," I admitted to Michael.

He smiled, "I know."

He drove off and within minutes we were at my house.

"What should we do now?" I asked, falling onto the couch next to Michael.

He pulled me onto his lap and then leaned on his side on the couch, pulling me with him so we were spooning.

"Take a nap," he mumbled, pulling a blanket off the back of the couch.

His arms settled around my waist tightly.

I don't know how long we slept, but Ashton's car was gone by the time I woke up and my family was home, cooking dinner.

"Look who's finally awake," Tanner teased us, walking through the living room.

Michael was still sound asleep and his grip on me tight but still comfortable.

I smiled and placed my hands on top of Michael's, drumming my fingers mindlessly on his soft skin.

"Hey, sweetie," my mom smiled, walking into the room.

She crouched down in front of me, "Are you two dating?"

I shook my head, "No."

"Do you like him?"

I nodded shyly, "I do. But I don't think he does. Besides, even if he did I don't think I'd be ready to date after Kai."

She nodded, "Don't force yourself into anything, sweetie. When you're ready you're ready. Maybe telling him about Kai would help. I know you're embarrassed and sad about what happened. But maybe telling him would help you figure things out."

"What if he does was Kai did? Mom I can't deal with that again..."

"I don't think he would. Michael's different. I can see it. Or maybe Ashton. Just talk to someone, sweetie. I really think it would help."

I nodded, "Okay."

She kissed my forehead, "Dinner will be ready soon."

-Michael's POV-

They thought I was asleep.

Who was Kai? What did he do? What did he do to Jade that hurt her that much?

I wanted to find out. I made it my objective. I want to help Jade. I'm falling in love with her. But I want to be able to fall without something from her past getting in the way.
