The gun on the left has all the parts pointed out that the boys point out to Rebecca. The only difference is the boys call the 'Slide Stop' a 'Slide Lock'.

Thanks for Reading!

Rebecca's POV

We head inside to the classroom part of the indoor shooting range. The walls are a stark white and the floor is bare concrete. There are some tables and chairs set up for what looks like a meeting or class and two medium size windows, one that looks into the indoor range and one that looks out onto the outdoor range. The room has some tables along one wall that amounts to the front of the room. On those tables are lots of equipment that I don't know what they are.

Z is for Zachary, E is for Ethan, and R is for Rebecca.

Z: "I'm going to assume that you have never handled a gun before."

R: "That is correct."

E: "Have you ever seen someone shoot a gun?"

R: "No. Never been around them until now. Well, I'm sure my father's guards carried but I never knew about it."

Z: "So completely from the beginning. We deal mostly with semi-automatic handguns and bolt-action rifles. For now, we are only going to talk about the handguns."

Ethan picks up a handgun to be able to point of everything that he is talking about.

E: "So this is a handgun. I am going to explain the major parts of a gun to you. This is what a gun will look like when it is ready to fire. I do not have bullets in this gun, but you will treat it as though it does. This is the magazine release. When you push this button, the magazine will slide out of the butt, or grip, of the gun. On some handguns the magazine release will be a button and on others it will be a small lever. This is the slide lock. Many will call it a slide release, but it is not. If I see you treating it as a release, I will bench you from gun training for a week. The slide lock's purpose is exactly as it sounds, something that keeps the slide from closing. This is"

R: "I have a question. Why can't you use the slide lock as a release? I mean, it keeps the slide open so if you disengage it, it should release the slide."

Z: "When you use the slide lock as a release, you wear out the part that holds the slide from sliding home. Eventually that part will be so worn down that it could slip at any time which is dangerous."

R: "Oh, that makes sense."

The boys go through all the parts of the gun explaining what each part does, and then they work with me to try and figure out a shooting stance.

Z: "We believe that the only way for you to figure out how you shoot best is by actually shooting. This is only so you have an idea of what feels comfortable to you. We will also have you watch some of the boys in our unit to see how they stand when they shoot, and then we can have you try some stances and we will see how you feel about them."

E: "I think that is enough information for today Zach, she looks like she is having information overload."

Zach and Ethan look at me like they are studying me.

Z: "I agree. Let's head on back."

We walk back to the main cluster of building in silence and the boys walk me back to where I am staying. When we get there one of the boys in Zach and Ethan's unit, I guess our unit now, is leaning on the side of my building looking like a sentry.

"There you are!" the boy leaning against the building exclaims, "I have been waiting for you to get back."

Z: "What did you need Will?"

The boy, Will, explains that he was told by Dr. Holst to tell Zach and Ethan, when they got back with me, that she needs to see them as soon as possible.

E: "I guess we should get going then. I'm sorry to say this Rebecca but I am going to have to ask you to stay inside and not leave tonight. I have a feeling that another platoon is going to try and do something to you to prove that you shouldn't be allowed to work with 'the big boys' and that our unit is not capable of keeping you safe."

R: "Ugh. Why do boys have to be so immature at times?"

The boys give me a dirty look.

R: "What you know it's true."

Z: "While it may be true of us, you girls can be immature as well. Plus, you are forgetting that most of the boys here are under the age of 12 where they can still be considered kids. You have to keep that in mind while we may act older, we are all still kids, so we will all have our moments."

With that they shoo me into my room and head to go speak with Dr. Holst.
